Meet Julie Prichard of Julie Prichard Fine Art and Instruction

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Prichard.

Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was fortunate to attend a local class in mixed media art in 2009. The instructor and the people I met during the class inspired me to pick up some paint and some canvases and I never looked back! As I continued to paint and share my work with people I met online, I began to receive requests to teach what I was doing with paint and other supplies. Online teaching was a relatively new concept to people at the time.

I purchased a camcorder and a computer and taught myself how to record and edit instructional videos. After a few weeks, I placed a painting class online. Customers purchased my class and word of the class spread. Before you know it, I had over 400 students happily painting away from all areas of the world. Teaching classes to students online in every time zone has afforded me the time to stay home with my young daughter.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenges I have faced are keeping up with changing technology and marketing without a significant marketing budget. Over the years, my course content has changed significantly, all in an effort to provide an attractive product to as many students as I can.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Julie Prichard Fine Art and Instruction – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am an abstract mixed media artist and instructor, When I am not painting for a show or working on a commission, I am writing and filming online art course content that I host on my website.

To keep costs low, I have taught myself everything that has to do with my business from website design, video edits, social media campaigns, SEO, graphic design, photography and accounting. These skills have offered me the cross-over work of shooting photography and designing websites for others. I think the fact that I do not farm out any of the jobs needed to run my business sets me apart from a lot of my competition. I can ensure that my product is a 100% reflection of my vision.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
As a third generation San Diegan, I have a deep love for this city. Inspiration by way of our beautiful weather, historical surroundings and picturesque landscapes finds its way into my work often. Its hard to identify things that I do not enjoy about San Diego, but if I had to pick one, I would say it would have to be overcrowding of once lightly populated areas that I used to visit as a child and the commercialization of popular areas that we share with tourists.
