Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Panganiban.
Kyle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started taking photography seriously after receiving my first DSLR camera as a gift in 2014. I took photos as much as I could throughout my college experience at UC San Diego, but my studies and soccer usually got the better of my free time.
After graduating in 2018, I have been able to start taking photos more consistently, which has contributed greatly to my progress as a photographer. Putting more time and thought into my photos has definitely boosted my creativity and confidence.
I plan to continue taking photos that define my perspective and interests, but I also want to start bringing value to people/clients through photos that capture moments to be remembered.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Since I am still not entirely a photography business, I do not know if I have necessarily had the same challenges that come along with owning a business. That being said, one obstacle that I have had to overcome includes learning what I like to shoot. As I mentioned before, I started being able to take photos more consistently after I graduated from UC San Diego in 2018. With more time on my hands, I would sometimes hit slumps where I wasn’t taking great photos and I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to take photos of. I had to work out what kind of photography interested me and made me happy through just going out and shooting.
Through this, I really learned the lesson that not every shoot is going to produce the photos you want. By continuing to practice and learn, I started seeing massive progress in my editing capabilities and the photos I was
taking.
As I am now starting to take photos for a side job, I am beginning to see the challenges of finding clients and producing images that really capture what my clients have in mind.
Kyle Panganiban Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a photographer, I seek to capture photos that encompass the areas that I am experiencing. I have been fortunate to live in San Diego and travel to different parts of the world, so I have become extremely passionate about landscape, portrait, and ocean photography.
I have recently started to create images that incorporate more than one photo, creating an overlay or collage. My thought with these images is to create a piece of art that is more than just a photo.
Taking a look at my Instagram (@kylepanganiban), most of my photos do not follow the 1:1 grid ratio but create a page that encapsulates my photography interests into art form. My hope with this and my photography overall is to offer something different that impacts or brings value to people.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
As the world is starting to go more and more digital, I see the photography industry-shifting entirely to cater to social media and online viewing. As technology evolves, I think it makes photography accessible to a larger group of people than ever before.
