Michael, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
Hi my name is Michael Lopez Jr. I am a 23 year old fashion and beauty photographer in Southern California. I have been doing photography professionally the past three years but I picked up photography when I was 14 years old. I am working on getting an agent and doing photography full time, but in the meantime I work with students with disabilities in a school setting.

What motivates you to keep going in the ever changing creative world?
A big motivating factor for me is the healing benefits of art. When I started photography, I created images as a positive coping method. To this day I still create to heal. Watching clients light up after our photo session provides such an indescribable warm feeling in my soul.

What are a few dream goals of yours when it comes to your photography career?
Oh man haha I add new dream goals everyday. The first dream goal I’d say is getting an agent and moving to Los Angeles to do photography full time. I absolutely love the work I do in the education system but photography is my everything and I want nothing more than to do it everyday for the rest of my life.

Another dream goal of mine would be working with violinist extraordinaire Lindsey Stirling. In the previous question I talked about photography healing me but I also healed from music. Her music in particular. I look forward to the day where I can capture her next level visions.

Probably my last biggest dream goal that ties into my first goal of going full time is giving back to my mom by buying her a house. She raised me and my sister as a single mom and I owe her so much. When I make it I want to hire her onto my team so she doesn’t have to work and I want to buy her her dream house on the beach.

What is something about you that people might not know just from looking at you?
I eat, sleep, breathe fashion. Literally everyday I am watching reruns of runways and looking at editorials on Pinterest and Instagram. Every second of my life I want it to be fashion related. Of course when you see me you’d never guess it because to be honest I can’t dress to save my life haha. Give me access to haute couture tho and I can style a model to perfection.

Digital photography or film photography? Why?
I love a cute digital moment but I personally live for film. Film photography provides tones and texture that digital photographers spend hours in a editing program trying to replicate. There is also the excitement of film too. Not being able to see the shots you got is a adrenaline rush! Not to mention there is a chance the photos won’t even come out right or show up at all. I am very blessed to be able to shoot film with my clients and I hope as it becomes more popular again that prices become more realistic for everyone.
