Meet Mimi Knoblock of MimiSDbest in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Knoblock.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mimi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Nohemi, I go by Mimi. Though I was born in Mexico, I grew up here in San Diego. Escondido to be exact. I was raised by a small business owner, so I guess you can say I’ve grown up with the entrepreneurial spirit instilled in me. I have worked in many fields. I’ve done the “regular 9-5”. I’ve worked retail, I’ve served tables, I’ve been a nanny, but I never really felt that any of those jobs were my “calling”. Until 2013, I got married in 2013 (to a Navy vet) and 6months into my marriage I found my “calling”.

And I found it through Tragedy. Early in 2014, my husband suffered from a brain bleed. Things weren’t looking great for my husband and were told that if he did recover, he would have a very different life. Things changed dramatically for our family. I quit my job to take care of my husband, his disability check wasn’t much to pay all of the bills and keep food on our table. I had to get creative. I started selling clothing through an app I found online.

Poshmark and boy did my life change! The sales I was making were enough to help us through my husband’s long road to recovery, My husband beat the odds. He had a full recovery! His doctors were amazed! Strangers would never even guess that something like that happened to him! And so he went back to work and by that point, we decided, that I didn’t need to. We decided I could stay working from home “flipping fashion”.

What’s that you ask? You see, some people flip houses, I flip fashion. I love what I do. I have never felt as passionate as I do about anything in my life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Thankfully, the struggles have been few. The main struggle has been learning the finances aspect of my business. Thankfully I have the best mentor for that. My dad.

Please tell us about your business.
MimiSDbest specializes in selling pre-loved, quality, fashion at a fraction of store prices. I am known by local “fashion-flippers” for putting on great networking events. What sets me apart from others is the personal touch I add to everything I do.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Wearing my tap shoes to school and putting on a show for my classmates at recess. Thing was I didn’t know how to tap. My mom got me to tap shoes at a thrift store and I pretended to be a tap dancer.
