Meet Greg May of Renovating Lives in El Cajon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg May.

Greg, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I relocated to San Diego in 1988 from the Midwest and bought my first property in 1989. Since then, I have been involved in several industries (construction, law, marketing, lending) but all the while, I continued to invest in, improve and manage a real estate portfolio. Real Estate is my passion. Today, I dedicate myself to helping homeowners improve the value of their homes so they can sell them quickly for tens of thousands of dollars in added profit.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe the struggle for any true entrepreneur is finding happiness. We’re never good enough. We never achieve enough. We’re never successful enough. I am just now at a point in my life where I am beginning to overcome this mentality and realize that my financial success does not define me and never should have. Renovating Lives enables me to utilize a lifetime of experience and discipline to truly help people who really need it. Doing the right things for the right reasons brings both success and happiness.

Please tell us about Renovating Lives.
One of the most important aspects of life is helping those who need it most, and this is the main mission for Renovating Lives. Unlike most construction or house flipping companies, Renovating Lives puts the client first, and it doesn’t matter how much money they have in the bank. I truly believe no one should ever sell their home as-is, and there is always something you can or should do to improve your home’s value before you put it on the market.

However, not everyone can afford to do this. So that’s where Renovating Lives steps in. We will inspect the home, make value add improvement recommendations, provide contractor quote, funding, project management and agent recommendations. All with no out-of-pocket-costs to any homeowner and there is also no cost or obligation to receive our recommendations.

Renovating Lives is a business with a heart that is built on the foundation of helping others maximize the profit from the sale of their home. However, it is more than just increased profit. The impact that added profit has on our clients’ lives is nothing short of amazing. Truly life-changing in so many ways. When they needed help the most and no one else could or would help them, we do. Seeing families’ lives changed by what you do could not be more rewarding.

What do you like best about our city?
San Diego County is large in size, but it is a small community at heart. People want to come together to help one another and there is a sense of community that cannot be found in many other large metropolitan areas.

I also love the unique character each neighborhood has. From the Victorian-style homes in Golden Hill, the mansions on the cliffs of Bird Rock, high rises with incredible views downtown and the bungalows in North Park there is a home style for everyone and a neighborhood to meet all desires.  Oh yeah, let’s not forget Alpine horse ranches.

  • We do not charge any upfront fees and the homeowner does not pay a dime until the home sells. As real estate investors, we strive for the least amount of investment in a home that will achieve the maximum financial return or selling price. We focus on reducing the on-market time and the targeted profit goal rather than the scope of work. Homes need what they need to make this happen. Fully renovated homes sell faster and for top dollar. So, no job is too big or too small as long as our investment puts more money in the seller’s pocket at the close of escrow. Maximizing the profit for our clients is always our objective and we have achieved that objective hundreds of times with an average home value increase of $114K and $62K in added profit to the home seller. We can even help sellers with moving and temporary housing expenses as well as past due bills before the project starts.
