Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Komers.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Sarah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my little brand from my kitchen table in 2013 after the birth of my last baby. After six years of being deep in motherhood, I missed being creative. Through the encouragement of my husband, I took my sewing “hobby” online to share my designs with the world. When I opened my online shop doors, the brand was named “WeeStructed” and we recently re-branded to “Mom Culture” in 2018.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Gosh no! It has been nothing but a rocky road. Entrepreneurship can truly be a daily rollercoaster but it’s also the wildest ride of your life. Growing my business over the last six years, we’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs but thankfully more highs than lows. From supplier issues to dealing with intellectual property infringements, we’ve had our fair share of struggles, but it’s always worth it. My biggest struggle is still being a bootstrapped operation; I have big ideas on a very tiny self-funded budget so we also have to be extra creative when it comes to our budget.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Mom Culture is an online lifestyle brand focused on apparel for mamas and papas. We are most well-known for “Raise Good Humans” and “Motherhood Winging It’. What we feel sets us apart among the other graphic tee companies is the fact that we feature user-generated content within our marketing materials and social media platforms. We don’t pay any models because we want to promote real people who genuinely love our brand. Throughout the year, we give back to various organizations to support maternal mental health and moms in need.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have so many supportive cheerleaders in my corner. I’m very blessed in that department from my amazing husband who not only cheers me on daily, but he set up everything for me from my website to my taxes, he’s my right-hand man. I also have the most amazing Mom Culture crew members Gina and Julie that run the show so I can be a mom on duty at a moment’s notice. They also love our brand mission and the community of mamas just as much as I do. I also wouldn’t be where I am without my supportive customers. They truly make it all worth it!
