Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Lutwak.
Scott, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After traveling over 100 countries and working overseas 10 years, I started restaurant.com. The Russian market crashed and the Dot-com era started so I jumped on board and started Restaurant.com. I wanted to get back in shape but no gym met my standards, so I built the first Fit in 2004… Five years later, I moved to San Diego and opened my second Fit in DiamondView Tower in East Village.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur is anything but a smooth road. Our San Diego facility opened in Feb 2008 which arguably could be the worst month in financial history in the us.
However, what I learned is that our Fit members are connected to Fit, and each other, and for many it served as a “third place”. Once the downturn passed, it’s been growing steadily each month.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fit Athletic Club – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our members are everything to us. What sets us apart from other fitness clubs is our ability to truly connect with our members. I have seen friendships born and business deals done on our treadmills. We offer our members opportunities to stay connected with each other via monthly members events, summer pool parties, Member Appreciation Days, holiday parties and happy hours.
Connecting outside of the gym has kept them coming back to the gym.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have two new Fit locations opening next year. One in Mission Beach and one in Little Italy.
