Meet Taylor Merritt of TITLE Boxing Club San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Merritt.

Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a passion for fitness; growing up playing sports had a big impact on my life and shaped who I am today. During my time in college, I decided to become a certified personal trainer and certified in sport and fitness nutrition. I also became a member of TITLE Boxing Club back in Chicago, as a place where I could relieve stress and get a great workout. Immediately, I was hooked. TITLE was a second home for me and I loved the family atmosphere they created there. It was much more than just a place to go workout.

Upon moving to San Diego in 2013 with my husband, Spencer, I met Corey and Chris, the owners of TITLE Boxing San Diego. This was my chance to change lives and create that family atmosphere for others that I loved and appreciated so much in Chicago. I have been with TITLE Boxing Club San Diego since we opened as the head trainer and now as the General Manager. While managing all aspects of the club, I still continue my true passion; teaching classes and training clients. The members are the reason why I love my job so much. I feel lucky to get to meet so many unique individuals and have an incredible, “TITLE Family”, as we call it.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a new business is not easy. We have gone through different highs and lows, but overall, the last 4 years have been some of the best. If it weren’t for the incredible support of my team and my husband, we wouldn’t be where we are today. I am truly grateful to be surrounded by people who I call family and know that we support each other and want what is best for TITLE and our amazing members.

Our signature Power Hour utilizes the fundamentals of a true boxer’s workout to strengthen and tone your arms, legs, back, core and your confidence. Empowering, exhilarating and totally addictive—this is your new favorite workout.

This high-intensity interval training workout sculpts your body and burns calories like nothing you’ve experienced before. Our trainers will lead you through explosive boxing rounds where you’ll deliver jab, cross, hook and uppercut combinations, working your entire body on our 100-pound heavy bags.

Our kickboxing workouts incorporate kicking with punching for a dynamic and challenging experience. You’ll keep your body guessing as your trainer pushes you to use power in every style of kick, punch or knee throughout the rounds.

Our newest workout is a Mixed Martial Arts – influenced class designed to elevate your soul and condition your body. Ground bag work blends with boxing and kickboxing on the heavy bag for an ultimate full-body challenge.

We offer Private Training in addition to the variety of classes. Our experienced trainers don’t intimidate but inspire you to become the champion of your life. Choose Private or Group Training to take your technique to the next level and accelerate your results. You will quickly become obsessed by your body doing things you didn’t think it could do.

Breakdown of classes:
-Warm Up
The best workout of your life starts with trainer-led shadow boxing, cardio drills and stretches to get your heart pumping. You’ll begin each class with a solid stretch and calisthenics to prepare your body for punching or kicking the heavy bag.

-The Rounds
Each of our rounds are three minutes long where your trainer will lead you through a series of punches and kicks on the 100-pound heavy bag. We’ll tell you, show you and teach you how to master each move throughout the rounds.

-Active Rest
Between each round, we’ll keep your mind and your body engaged with calisthenics for your active rest period. Each active rest period is one minute long. You can push yourself and your limits during this period or take a quick water break and jump right into the next round.

-Core & Cool Down
Finish your workout with the hardest, most sculpting portion of our class. Trainers will lead you through a strengthening and toning abdominal workout to define your core. Finish your workout inspired.

    Being a member of Title Boxing i can say with all honesty, we really are a family, the coaches are the best bar none, the workout is all encompassing, we don’t so much compete against each other, we compete with ourself a, we encourage each other to be the best we can. It’s a mind, body, spirit, experience.
