Meet Sam Behnam of Toast Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Behnam.

Sam, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in the south of France and I have always had a passion for cooking. I moved to the United States almost 20 years ago and decided food was my passion. My wife and I opened Toast Catering 10.5 years ago and we are both passionate and love what we do, we know this is what we were both meant to do in our life. We always want our clients and their guests to be very happy with our food and our service. We love creating new eclectic dishes and staying with current trends with our food styles. We are a full-service catering company, and we can provide food, service, bartending and all of your rental needs for your event. We do catering for any type of event you are planning.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The catering world is a challenge on a daily basis, anywhere from scheduling the staff, purchasing the right amount ingredients, make sure we have the right load lists. Organization is the key and being very detailed is what you have to be in the catering world.

Toast Catering – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Toast Catering is a full-service catering company in San Diego County. We specialize in catering events such as weddings, corporate, cocktail parties, bar/bat mitzvah’s and delivery service. We offer tray passed, plated, buffet and food stations. We have a full catering menu with styles that are inspired from French, American, Mediterranean, Spanish, Japanese, Persian and Italian cuisines. We also do gluten free and vegan food. We are very proud of our food and service; our staff will go above and beyond to make sure each event is executed properly and the guests are attended to and happy. All of our clients at weddings say our food was the best food they have ever had at a wedding.

We have an eclectic menu which the chefs create to satisfy all of our client’s food interests. We are considered to be at a mid-range price point for catering, but we believe our food and service is comparable to catering prices that are higher than our price points. We finish cooking all of the food onsite to ensure the quality and freshness of our food at each event. We buy from a local company called Speciality Produce, who works closely with local farms near San Diego County.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for Toast Catering is always to provide quality and detailed food and service, while making sure our business is profitable.

Pricing:

  • Typical pricing for weddings is $60 to $80 per person
