Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Carvalho.
Hi Wendy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m originally from the East Coast, I made the cross-country trek to permanently reside in sunny San Diego, where I now enjoy the warm, amazing West Coast lifestyle. I am a sun worshipper, creative DIY-er, bulldog mom, and plant enthusiast. In my free time, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, hiking, taking photographs, gardening, painting, and renovating my Southern California home.
Before starting my interior design career, I studied visual communications & marketing and have worked in graphic design, marketing, fashion, and other design-related professions for over 20 years.
I have always had a passion for well-curated cozy spaces that make you feel good just being present. After many years in the graphic design/marketing industry, I went back to school to study interior design so that I can help myself and others achieve that same feeling of well-being in their own personally curated spaces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being new to the industry and starting out a bit later in life, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing, but as time goes on, I learn more about myself and running my business. What I have learned along the way is to take it one day at a time, set clear goals, and keep pushing through. I take any and all challenges as a learning experience.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Yes… Set clear goals, ask questions, seek out help if you need it and never give up, be true to yourself, and don’t let others discourage you from reaching your goals. When I first started out, many told me that I was crazy for switching careers at the age of 40, but I believe that true passion can drive one to overcome any obstacle.
