Meet Kevin Labar of Kevin Labar Fitness in Mission Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Labar.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up I played and competed in a variety of different sports including Taekwondo, basketball and football. I was always the “smaller kid” on the field , but I was relentless in making sure I was better than every one else. As the old saying goes “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard” and I made sure I was never out worked.

With that chip on my shoulder, I always knew I wanted to get into a career where I could help empower other people. Eventually, I went to San Diego State to get my Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and began working as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor for 3 years. In 2017, I quit my corporate gym job and began renting out space over at Self Made Training Facility Mission Valley where I could start working for myself. I started with zero clients and worked day in and day out to build up my clientele to the point where my schedule is now jam packed.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Building my own personal training business from nothing came with plenty of struggles. For the first 5 months that I was renting out space, I was barely breaking even and working 60+ hours a week between building my business and working another job. The hardest thing for me was remembering to have faith in myself. Cause if I don’t have faith in my self, then no-one else will. The moment I flipped that around, everything started going my way and my business grew exponentially.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kevin Labar Fitness – what should we know?
My slogan is “Train Smarter Not Harder”, In which I believe that I have formulated the most effective way to transform my clients bodies and lives in the most sustainable way possible.

I currently train a wide variety of clients ranging from athletes to the elder population. I specialize in Strength Training, but my clients would say that I’m an expert booty builder, as most of my clientele are woman. I made it an emphasis in my career to master the art of booty building and have built my business around that. I think what I am most proud of as a company, is the amount of people I get to empower and strengthen every single day.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
In 5-10 years I see the personal training industry growing exponentially. Through my experience, I’ve been able to empower and change the lives of hundreds of clients through teaching them strength training and health. With all the issues we are currently facing from obesity to depression, I believe personal training is the next big thing to cure it all.
