Meet Kalyn Kavanaugh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kalyn Kavanaugh.

Kalyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl my parents were buying houses, fixing them up and selling them. They were “flippers” before flipping was a thing. I watched my mom create lasting and meaningful relationships with everyone she met. Both personally and professionally. When I was ten, she decided to get her real estate license and I was fascinated with the process. Fast forward 14 years and I graduated from college, got married, and had a baby. I had always dreamed of being a SAHM. I was working as a professional photographer in my “spare time” but my dream of becoming a Realtor was always looming in the background. My husband was a firefighter and was always working. I knew becoming a Realtor was possible- just a hard thing to achieve. In 2013, my daughter was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, a Craniopharyngioma. Life has a funny way of reminding you that there is no set plans in your life and there is no better time than now to achieve your dreams. So… I decided that there was no better time than now to get my Real Estate license and dive in headfirst. Even though my Mom now lives in Santa Barbara County, she has been such an integral part of my business. She has taught me hard work, dedication and how to really be there for my clients through the entire transaction. Real Estate isn’t just a job for me- it’s truly my passion.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have been very fortunate these past five years, that most of my business has been through word of mouth. Having supportive friends and family has really fueled my business!

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a one-man show on the outside, but that doesn’t mean that I do everything alone. I have a great team within my brokerage that helps and supports me through every transaction. Windermere Homes & Estates is an incredible company and they are always there to support me if needed. I sell all over San Diego County but really focus on the areas I know best; Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista & San Marcos. I believe knowing the market you live in is crucial to success.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is different to every person. To some, it may be a specific number of houses sold each month and to some, it may be making a certain amount of money. To me, being successful is doing what I do- the best that I possibly can and at the end of a transaction, having my clients happy with me.
