Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela LaChica.
Angela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born & raised in San Diego, sports was always a huge part of our lives growing up. I was able to get my first internship with the San Diego Padres the summer I turned 15. That year, I realized I could get paid to work in an environment I loved, and I’ve stayed on that path ever since. In college, I was fortunate to work for Coach Steve Fisher and the men’s basketball team at San Diego State. This allowed me the platform to gain more experience in multiple aspects of the sports industry; and afforded me networking that benefited me down the line. In 2007, I decided it was time to officially start my own company, working multiple projects on the side, and in other cities. 12 years later, we are a thriving, all-female, comprehensive sports management firm with clients all over the country.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Really the only struggles along the way have been my growing pains in learning how our industry – and how business in general – works. I am in an extremely competitive world, and navigating through all of the challenges that come with it, while both keeping my eye on the end goal and letting my own moral compass lead the way, is probably the most rewarding part as I look back on my path to date.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LaChica Sports & Entertainment Group story. Tell us more about it.
LaChica Sports & Entertainment Group works with various professional athletes and organizations. Our wide-ranging expertise includes social justice advocacy and training; development and execution of strategic national marketing and media campaigns; and special event planning and management. Our social impact projects often leverage our company’s expertise across all of these platforms simultaneously. We also provide ongoing guidance to the NFL’s top management and partners on the strategic implementation of those initiatives.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
No luck; it’s been all hard work and following my instincts. I am fortunate to have an amazing support system from my family and my parents instilled within me a strong set of values that have consistently served as my guide.
