Meet Faye Rodriguez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faye Rodriguez.

Faye, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always enjoyed baking from a young age, but my interest in baking became a full blown passion once I got married and started a family. I enjoyed baking for my husband and kids as well as co-workers etc..

Upon trying my desserts, I would always receive compliments and be asked when I would open my bakery so, when my husband I became empty nesters and moved up to North County to be closer to my job at Brixton, I decided to use some of my “free” time to start a wholesale bakery business. I’m a Director of Product Development by day and a baker in the early morning/evenings/weekends!

I currently have three wholesale locations in Oceanside (Privateer Marketplace, Stay Golden Coffee Shop and Panel Comic Book Coffee Shop). I also do weddings and small party catering by request.

A few of my accomplishments that I’m most proud of include being the first baker to sell out at a recent Chef Driven Bake Sale sponsored by Friendly Feat, a non-profit organization in San Diego dedicated to supporting local charitable organizations, being featured in San Diego Magazine’s Best Dessert issue with a FULL PAGE SPREAD, organizing a Bake Sale that raised over $3,000 for the 2017 Lilac Wild Fires. I am currently planning a bake sale to benefit the Australian Bush Fires… For me, baking has always been my favorite love language, and I’m so happy I get to share it with the community and people I love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the biggest struggle has been overcoming my reservations about starting a business and being brave enough to take the leap and put myself out there.

Please tell us about your business.
Cheesecakes are my signature dish. I can remember baking my first cheesecake as a newlywed and how it was overbaked, cracked and burnt. Since then, I have perfected it and have been told my cheesecakes are the best in the world. I love how cheesecakes are so customizable! With a little creativity, you can turn anything into a cheesecake! The funny thing is I can’t even eat cheesecake due to severe dairy intolerance.

I am most proud that I am using my talents to bring joy to others and to help raise money for charitable causes. For me, starting my business has never been about the money, it has always been about sharing.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was walking to the Book Mobile with my Mom, picking out books and going home to immerse myself in the pages of those books. Sometimes we would bake chocolate chip cookies when we got back home! I know it sounds nerdy, but it was my favorite way to escape. I’m still an avid reader to this day and I think baking has also been an escape outlet for me.
