Meet Samantha Simone of The Nada Shop in Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Simone.

Samantha, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Fresh out of college, I worked in management consulting for several years. After traveling for client work, I started to realize the detrimental effect of single-use plastics on our environment. I wanted a place to exist where people could bring in containers and refill on everyday home and body products instead of going to the store and buying another plastic bottle every time you needed something. After a little research, the idea of The Nada Shop was born, a zero waste shop and refillery to help people live a more sustainable lifestyle.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is never a smooth road, and if it is, then I don’t think you learn as much. There will always be obstacles that come up, but the thing is, is that no matter how much you try to plan for them – it won’t work. You can’t always predict or know what challenges are going to lay on the road ahead. And, that’s what makes being a small business owner a consistent growth experience, and an exciting one.

The Nada Shop – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Nada Shop is a one-stop-shop for sustainable living. We sell home and body care products that have clean ingredients and are sustainably packaged. Our mission is to make low waste living easier and more accessible to everyone. We offer refills for everyday products in our shop; people can bring in containers from home and refill their containers, which reduces single-use plastic.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment so far has been the launch of our own line of products. It fills me with so much joy that we can provide people with products they feel good about using, both in their home and on their bodies. The journey of starting with a concept of an idea and bringing it to fruition is an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world.
