Today we’d like to introduce you to Marta Giri.
Hi Marta, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a curious person and a lifelong learner, with a passion for reading, exploring + traveling to other cultures. This curiosity led me to study abroad in Brazil and then to Sydney, Australia, where I finished my undergraduate degree in journalism. While in Sydney, I co-hosted an alternative health radio show and I would travel around the city interviewing dozens of wellness practitioners.
After two decades of working in marketing + edtech, I felt called to return to my journalism roots. During the summer of 2020, I was hit with the idea for Locally Well San Diego, a media company dedicated to showcasing the latest wellness news + events right here in San Diego, and put it into motion. So, you could say my life has really come full circle, and it brings me so much joy interviewing our local wellness practitioners for our articles and our Wellness in San Diego podcast each week!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life always has a way of giving you ups and downs but really those “downs” are just a detour to a new path and an evolved outlook on life. The hardest moments have been when I’m not aligned with my authentic self, my desires, and what makes me truly happy. I accepted jobs I wasn’t really excited about, I didn’t speak what was really on my mind or I did things just to please other people, instead of myself.
So now I make a point to cultivate a daily practice of mindfulness and joy. For me, joy is singing every day (you’ll often see my dancing and singing in my car!), going for a walk, savoring a hot beverage, cuddling with my kids, connecting with others, or laughing at a clip from an old Saturday Night Live episode. It’s the little things that make your day filled with joy if you pay attention.

Anyone who starts their own business is a risk taker. It takes commitment, drive + a brave spirit to start something brand new and to put yourself out there. It’s been a personal growth journey for myself, and I am amazed at how much I have learned and grown on the way. I am much more comfortable now with being “seen” as the face of the brand but it’s something I have had to work at, each and every day. Now I am hosting a podcast and local events and am actually enjoying putting myself out there!
