Meet Mei Tang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mei Tang.

Mei Tang

Hi Mei, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I was as little as 3 years old, I’ve thought and dreamed about being something bigger than where I was.

Born in Macau, China, my parents came from a world with blue-collar parents, and working hard was their motto to obtain life things.

They’ve taught me a lot. A lot about what it takes to persevere and push yourself beyond what I felt I was ever capable of.

My parents never understood how different I was, though. They were taught and also taught me to not “pursue my dreams” or “cultivate my creativity.” It was more about school, get a job, find a good husband, get married, etc.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that path, but I always felt like I was here to do more than just that. I felt like God/Universe always gave me something more to share. My voice, my passions, my ability to relate to people, my story, etc.

I rebelled and pushed myself beyond what my family told me what I can or cannot do. I knew that even if it meant doing everything opposite of what they wanted, it is my life and for me to take into my hands.

There were a lot of challenges and obstacles I went through, from betrayal, deception, lies, jealousy, hatred, abuse, etc. that came along through my story. Yet it was not the thing to “cry” over or dwell on. It all made me stronger. It all created who I was today.

From business, love, friendships, and family. I’ve definitely lost a lot of people and things, but I’ve also gained a lot. What I gained is priceless and can never be replaced with money alone.

We can’t always choose what comes down our path, but it’s how we respond to it is the key.

I now live my life in my purpose and mission. Dancing, creating, sharing with people my knowledge, guiding people through their experiences, creating events around all that I stand for (plant-based, music, art, community), and more.

There may not be support from people around sometimes, but when our intentions are pure, the Universe always provides and unravels what’s for us. That’s the beauty of this whole game.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As mentioned, it hasn’t been easy, and the challenges have definitely taught me a lot.

From questioning who I was based around the relationships I was in, having friends and people that were kin to me leaving me left “hanging”, walking away from financial and physical abuse, starting over from scratch, healing through relationships, all of these things were a part of the journey to how I was able to gain life experiences that I never expected.

They teach you things at school, but we definitely don’t learn a lot of this stuff or any of this in class. The real school is through our life experiences we live and experience in life.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an artist, an entrepreneur, a spiritual guide, and forever a student.

I am most known for my creative an artist side, which is being a dancer, and I have work today. Legendary dancers, such as Shabba Doo (rest in paradise).

I have come to realize that I have been very fortunate to learn from legendary mentors and teachers. This gives me the opportunity to take some of the biggest goals and apply it to my own personal life and business.

I am proud of my resilience and everything I’ve done to get to warm up. I can never take full credit for any contributions. I’ve done as I always feel that God/Universe has always put me in the right places.

What sets me apart from others is that I am not ashamed to mention that I have experienced some of the “hardest” and “lowest” points of life to get to where I’m at now. Many changes and what one may look at as losses from financial, friendships, and more, to still navigate and get back up to not be afraid of the rebuild.

Many people can talk about their successes and who they are or what they’ve done, but it took a lot of falling down and moving past self-doubt to even get to where I’m at.

The thing is, there is always going to be someone better than us, and it’s not up to us to say that we are the best or even try to say we are here to compete with one another. As we strive daily, no matter what your story is, and we’re on being 1% better that is all the universe wants for us.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There will be a bigger need for creatives in the next 5 to 10 years.

Since AI is taking over, what will separate humans from artificial intelligence is being able to authentically express in ways that computers cannot.

The emotions of what an artist can do versus computers is what will separate us.

Technology can always mimic and study or analyze the behaviors of humans, but it cannot mimic emotions and how people respond or show emotions and feelings.

Whether if it’s through dance, writing, singing, painting, acting, etc. There is so much room for this to grow and ever change.

There is only one version of us, and when we allow ourselves to express from the heart, everything else will fall into place.
