Meet Victoria Parkhurst of Victoria Stephanie Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Parkhurst.

Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started photography around 2010. My brother played sports year round so I we were always in a field or arena so I started photographing all his games. I had this moment where I was like “I’m kinda good at this” I realized soon after that moment I loved being behind the Lens. When it came down to Deciding on what to go to college for I knew it had to be for photography so in 2016 I graduated from Cazenovia College in upstate New York with my bachelors of fine arts specialization in photography and a minor in Forensic photography.

After I graduated in May 2016 I moved across the country to San Diego to be with my husband who is stationed out here. The move was definitely a culture shock but it’s made my business soar!

Has it been a smooth road?
I would love to say it’s been a smooth ride but moving across the country is hard enough alone without having a business. Especially moving to San Diego where they’re such a big photography community there’s a lot of competition in a lot of talent out here but I will say that being in the military community has definitely helped my business because a lot of my clients are military families. Even though it definitely helped me there’s deathly downfall of being in the military for me because there’s a lot of photographers in the military community. But I have always had the mindset community over competition.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Victoria Stephanie Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Right now I specialize in boudoir photography I have a separate group called an Alluring Temptations by Victoria Stephanie photo. I say I specialize in boudoir but I’m definitely not limited to just doing that you’ll see a lot of my work is also military homecomings family portraits and couples photography. I think right now as of 2018 I’ve definitely been known for my boudoir photography that is a lot of been when I’ve been doing lately so it’s a majority of my work right now.

I think what I’m so proud of is how far my business has come since I was just standing on the side of the field taking photos of my brother I’ve grown so much over the years and you can really see in my work how much I have grown. I think what sets me apart from all the other photographers here in San Diego is that I’m not out here doing it for the finances I’m doing it because it’s a passion of mine I get this feeling every time I capture that once-in-a-lifetime moment for a family and that feeling never goes away which is why I will never leave being behind the camera.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I love to say I’ll know where my business will be in the next five years but being a military family I don’t even know where I will be in the next five years. I do know is I will still be behind the camera no matter where we are 5 -10 Years.
