Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Meingast

Hi Ann, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been fascinated by the law, and especially all the facets of tax law. My favorite TV show when I was young was Paper Chase, in which is a show about law students. I started out in the foreclosure defense and bankruptcy world. I worked with an attorney as a paralegal at the time. I was also adding Legal Studies onto my degree. For a class, I researched and figured out how to discharge tax debt in a bankruptcy. The tax seed was planted.

Later I moved to San Diego, to work with another foreclosure defense company that later added on tax resolution and preparation as the foreclosure’s were winding down.

I assisted the CPA on cases and while I wanted to work on cases myself, I had to become licensed to do so. So I became a Federally Enrolled Agent. An Enrolled Agent has the same powers as a CPA and attorneys to represent clients with the IRS and state tax agencies. I was a self-study while I was assisting the CPA on cases, so the exams went smoothly for me. Normally it take 3 plus months to study and more time to pass all three parts of the exam, I passed all three exams on the first try in 20 days. I was ready!

I then began working tax resolution cases with state agencies across the nation and of course the IRS for about 4 years. I was constantly researching tax law to enhance my knowledge, still do to this day. I then decided to start tax preparation, as business taxes were becoming another area I really excelled at.

I created AM TaxRx and took on a few clients on the side and my business grew with referrals only. I take the time to work with my clients, respond right away, and explain what they should/could be doing going forward for the best tax results. I also do personal taxes. My clients have a wide range of businesses in real estate investment, realtors, Amazon delivery services to online shops. I even have clients overseas in Europe. AM TaxRx is a full service business for business setup, tax planning, preparation, to resolution.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road for the most part. At first I took on a lot and made the business my number one priority and lost work life balance and needed to delegate. I have recently corrected this and now hire short term help when needed. I will very soon bring on another person to expand more.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
AM TaxRx is a full service tax firm specializing in tax resolution/collections and business taxes. I am known for making bad tax things go away when it comes to tax collections. I get a resolution in place right away.

On the tax preparation side, S Corporations are my absolute favorite. I will show my clients the tax perks involved with becoming an S Corp and when the best time to become one is.

I meet with my clients and have tax planning meetings throughout the year so we can stay on track with each other and what is happening within their businesses. I then show clients what/when we should be doing to make moves to get the best tax ending. I also respect my clients’ pace and making sure they are comfortable with the recommendations I make and assist them in making those changes if they choose.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality needed for my success is self care, being reliable to my clients, and constantly learning.
