Meet Morgan Maclea of Julian California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Maclea

Hi Morgan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My business started with a passion for the sport of professional wrestling. I grew up watching the shows on TV, and later the independent programs live. This only furthered my desire to make a life/career from this. I sought out a local school, which helped train my body and mind into thinking how the greats thought, and taught me the ins and outs of this business. After that, it then boiled down to constant training, studying materials on the subject, and crafting myself into the man I wanted to be, and whom I believed fans wanted to see. I am newer in this business, but already I’m making an impact in my surrounding cities, and fans and wrestlers alike are remembering my name.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth in this business is not exactly possible. The pure, physical demand it has on your body is something no one should ever take likely. Every night of training, or every weekend of shows, you’re out there putting your body on the line for the competition, and for the entertainment of the fans. That being said, it hasn’t been all together unpleasant. In fact, in a weird way, it’s been enjoyable. Learning what the human body can take, what it can’t, and what goes into a live show opens a lot of new perspectives that I previously did not have.
On the business side of professional wrestling, it has been challenging getting interest in who I am and what I bring. I’m still early on in my career, so there is a lot of trial and error as far as what looks good, what gets crowds interested, what merchandise people are willing to buy and how much they believe that/I am worth. Getting the right combination of these takes time, and maximum effort, as well as overwhelming belief in yourself and your product.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional wrestler, based in the San Diego County area. I specialize in combat and physical-based performances, against one or several opponents per match. In the ring, I’m known for being a more physical, brawler type wrestler, as opposed to one who is more technical or uses more Lucha Libre style acrobatics. As one of very few Scottish-based wrestlers, pulling from my clan roots, MacLea and Stewart of Appin, I stand out in a crowd (especially when I don my kilt colored as my family tartan.) I’m proud of the fact that, even though not as young as some of the newer talent entering the scene, I’m still able to keep up, and in some cases outshine, the competition. That and the fact that I have a fanbase who knows who I am, enjoys what I do, and continues to react to my presence.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Train hard, train often. This is the biggest part of the life. You need your body and mind to be 100% on point in the ring, and to get there it starts in the gym and the training grounds. That is to say, you don’t need to be shredded and look like Mr. Universe (though it doesn’t hurt.) You also don’t want to look messy and overwhelmed. Even the biggest guys in the business have to look and perform to the peak of their abilities, and if their abilities aren’t peak, it makes them, their opponent, and the show look half-assed and unprofessional.
