Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashley Bliss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Bliss

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I reached my goal of becoming a full-time creative through hard work and determination I believe. Over the years, I realized I needed more skills, so I went back to college and studied hard. Eventually, a great opportunity came at the right time, and I found the perfect job for me, I am very grateful for this!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My artistic career moves have always been intentional and related to where I was living at the time, what opportunities were there. I took jobs for the experience they offered, hoping these jobs would eventually help me reach my long-term goals somehow, I was always looking at the big picture for myself as an artist.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography, which was earned from working in photography darkrooms with film. Over time, I watched, embraced and tried to catch up on the shift to digital photography while keeping my love for the arts, especially art history. About five years ago, I earned Associate Degrees in Graphic Design and Web Design too, which luckily led to a full-time creative job combining all these skills.

This year, I designed a brochure that played a key role in securing an $11 million clubhouse renovation, contributed to the creative vision of the club’s 25th-anniversary coffee table book, and consistently produce a 24-page monthly newsletter—all while managing the creative needs of multiple departments.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a tomboy growing up, playing soccer from kindergarten through college intramurals. As the oldest of three with two younger brothers, we spent a lot of time riding bikes and exploring the woods with neighborhood kids. I loved reading The Baby-Sitters Club and Nancy Drew and watching Beverly Hills 90210, often wondering why my parents moved us to the Midwest since I was born in Southern California. Even though I dreamed of California summers growing up, I wouldn’t change my midwestern childhood for anything. I spent tons of weekends staying at my dear grandparents house too, I loved escaping my little brothers and having fun with my grandparents.
