Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharlene Adame.
Sharlene, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a little girl, my Uncle Jesse gave me my first paintbrush and called me “The Painter.” I quickly fell in love with painting, which sparked my passion for becoming a Makeup Artist.
My journey began at a portrait studio, working with a professional photographer and a diverse clientele. I eventually started offering independent services for special events, leading to opportunities in retail beauty and the film industry.
I enjoy working closely with individuals for personal events, actors in theater/film productions, and models at fashion shows. I also take pride in specializing in special effects (SFX) makeup.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t always been easy. Early on, I went for an interview for a Retail Makeup Artist position, and unfortunately, I was turned down. The company felt I didn’t have enough experience with selling.
That experience made me think about what I truly wanted. I realized I didn’t want to earn money by pushing products that didn’t work for people.
Now, when I’m working on video or editorial photoshoots, I get to share PR makeup products that I genuinely love and believe in with my team and clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a certified Makeup Artist and Hairstylist, specializing in Special Effects Makeup.
What sets me apart from others is my versatility; I can adapt to current trends, prioritize client comfort. I believe in creating unique looks rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
I am best known for my role as the head Hair and Special Effects Makeup Artist on the latest feature film titled *Censor Addiction*.
I take great pride in my journey and in not giving up despite the obstacles I’ve faced in the industry.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about our city is the wonderful weather, the mix of different cultures in the neighborhoods, the delicious food, and the stunning art that surrounds us.
I’ve had the chance to visit and work in some fantastic hidden spots on location and set.
On the downside, what I like least about our city is the heavy traffic.
