Meet Dr. Catherine Sy Luib of Luib Health Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Catherine Sy Luib.

Dr. Sy Luib, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My humble beginning began in the Philippines. There, I was born and raised in Cebu City, to parents with very little. I remember that they were such hard working people.

The constant need to cultivate education, work and leadership were all things that I had learned from them. Our journey as a family then led to immigration to the United States. We lived and learned the American culture and values in New York for about 8 years before we moved as a family to California. All the while, my parents were always making sure that my siblings and I excelled in school and in all our academic performances. Like many stereotypical Filipinos, I was always encouraged to go into nursing for the prestige, job security and salary. But I always knew that it was just not my life calling, it was not my destiny.

During that time of self-discovery, I did not have the slightest clue about what my life career would be. Initially, I thought to go into the Arts or Fashion Designing but the dream was short lived once financial reality sank in. Fortunately, I was ready to accept something in the health field, so long as it was not in the hospital. Miraculously, it was a motor vehicle accident that had caused my receiving chiropractic care and beginning my curiosity toward that alternative health profession. After great results and then a few months of internship with my family chiropractor, my life was changed. I became magnetically attracted to the uniqueness of Chiropractic and its Art, Science and Philosophy.

Furthermore, something within me was awakened from my Chinese Ancestry which called me to learn more about Traditional Chinese Medicine and my Filipino Ancestry which called me into the Energetic and Shamanistic Healing.

Within a short time after high school, I immediately worked and completed my approximated personal timeline to success. Graduations and multiple degrees from Community College, Undergraduate College, Graduate University and further training and certifications seemed like a breeze but only because of my spiritual relationship with my heavenly parent, God and the encouragement of my earthly parents. Without this key connection to God, I don’t think I would have survived the journey in becoming who I am today and doing what I do today. Above all, I credit all guidance, blessings and even the trials to the Almighty One.

Today I am a Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Nutritionist, and Herbalist. And I am thankful for it. As soon as I became Board Certified and Licensed in my respective fields, I was able to grow as a professional onboard the cruise ship. I lived, worked, traveled and enjoyed on the Celebrity Cruise line and the Royal Caribbean Cruise line. My public speaking, the art of sale, diagnosing skills and needling speed increased by nearly 200%. I was even recognized by the company as their top grossing Acupuncturist across the entire fleet for months, their “Trail Blazer” who bought so much in service revenue and product revenue. It was definitely a most rewarding period even in my early years in the profession.

After two years of ocean practice, I then decided to focus on my land practice. It took me a few trials and errors on location selection. I went through many challenges every time I had to start my practice from the beginning. All the way, I gravitated to community leadership and activism with a variety of health organizations throughout San Diego.

Now, I am in practice at Scripps Ranch and absolutely loving my new central location. I love how our office, Luib Health Center, offers Integrated Care and Holistic Medicine to our patients. Our important message is to share that health and healing is an inside job. Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Nutrition and Herbal medicine powerfully help in the restoration and rebalancing process.

Furthermore, we teach and remind our patients about healthy lifestyles which include a beautiful connection to our physical, emotional and mental bodies. We also take part in Telemedicine to increase our reach outside of the state and in Philanthropic Annual Medical Missions to the Philippines. Going national and global is the goal, helping as many people to live their highest potential and to experience connections to their self, others and mother earth is the mission.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, no. Frankly, I do not think that anything in life will ever be a smooth road. Some of the struggles that I experienced in the past were lack of faith and understanding from family critics. They had a hard time believing in the power of natural/alternative medicine. Another past challenge was honing in on my studies whilst a student doctor at the graduate university.

I had chosen to take a much heavier load at the time, double majoring in two completely different disciples such as Chiropractic and Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine. My days and nights were long and the challenge was in how to sustain my health and balance my time during my extensive studies and training. Again, I credit all my blessings and miraculous interventions to my Spiritual Parent, God and am grateful for the encouragement from my Earthly Parents.

Further challenges after I became Board Certified and Licensed in my respective fields included location selection to grow my practice. It is said in business that location is everything. For every time that I had to relocate, I had to start my practice from the beginning. So to other business owners, a word of advice, make sure to pay good attention to your business location.

The last challenge that I can think to share is both a good and bad. Our Integrated Medicine and Holistic Approach at Luib Health Center naturally causes our patients to heal and recover more significantly and more speedily than perhaps with other doctors that they have seen in past or current. Because of that, we continue to seek collaborations and platforms in which we can continue to share our message in a more impactful way. This interview with SDVoyager is a perfect opportunity to do exactly that and help us address that challenge in being more visible to the San Diego communities around us. I Thank you for this.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luib Health Center – what should we know?
There are so many exciting things to share about myself and what I do. I am an Author of an upcoming Health and Healing Book, Blogger, Speaker, Philanthropist, Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Nutritionist & Herbalist. I specialize in Functional Medicine and the Mind, Body, Spirit Connection. I am known for opening and releasing the blockages contained in one’s mental, emotional, spiritual and physical bodies.

There are so many exciting things to tell the community about Luib Health Center. Every created being has an innate intelligence, that inner doctor. What I do there is to facilitate that vital innate doctor to do what it does best and to assist in the deep healing work for my patients. At Luib Health Center, we offer many services that work in this vitalistic arena such as Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Herbs and Nutrition. Additional modalities that we integrate to amplify and synergize for excellent results include Laser/Light Therapy, Sound Therapy and Indigenous Energetic Body Work Sessions.

Through Chiropractic, I address the spine and brain and allow for the patient’s nervous system to express life in the best way that it can. It should be understood that when the spine is in complete alignment, the powerful nerve connections to one’s internal AND external organs function to fully serve that person. Chiropractic is more than just for aches/pains. Whether it is infertility, performance enhancement, to improve brain/cognitive function, Chiropractic can help all people greatly as preventative and wellness care.

Through Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, more than a 5,000-year-old healing system, I address the energetic stagnation and with very fine acu needles. This medical acupuncture treatment (along with our Cupping Therapy, Gua Sha Therapy and Tuina Massage) moves the qi and improve circulation along the body’s diseased meridians. In addition to Medical Acupuncture, we also offer Electro-Acupuncture, Laser Acupuncture and the sought after beauty rejuvenation with Cosmetic Acupuncture.

I am most proud of our integrated services, all at affordable prices. In fact, this is what truly sets us apart from other Chiropractic only practices or Acupuncture only practices. Our Community Acupuncture creates a space where healing can occur in groups (complimentary to our San Diego active duty military and veterans on Veteran’s Day).

Our Medical Acupuncture treatments are administered on our BioMat (a special Japanese gemstone mattress that adds negative ion and infrared technology). Our Cosmetic Acupuncture includes 3 applications of herbal facials and tuina (massage) with our jade beauty stone.

Our Cupping Therapy is actually a combo treatment that also includes Gua Sha (scraping) and Tuina (massage). Our Chiropractic session always includes Physiotherapy: heat, myofascial work and stretches. Postures are a big deal, we do not overlook that and give home care exercises to help with muscle compensation. Luib Health Center provides patients with Nutrition, 21-day Detox Cleanse Programs and Herbal Medicine. We prescribe our patients Food Therapy, Organic Whole Food Concentrates and Herbal Formulas. Our newest and exciting internal sublingual tinctures and external creams include CBD infused with healing Emu Oil.

Furthermore, we integrate the healing nature of gemstones for certain conditions and prescribe particular gems for external use as Stone Medicine. This month, our highlighted gemstone is turquoise. We have beautiful turquoise necklaces that have been blessed, energized and saged. It known to have healing powers that can benefit the whole body, with special strengths in healing ailments of the immune, respiratory, waste, skeletal systems and throat chakra.

Lastly, we recognize the loss and need for TRIBE in our modern society and offer (Complimentary, Cash Donation Welcomed) Monthly Empowerment Hour – Support Groups for moms, professional women, entrepreneurs and college students. Our Support groups are unique because it is not only a safe place to express feelings but a variety of Group Therapies are beautifully integrated to create lasting empowerment for every participant.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Love, Compassion, Intuition, Connection, Humility, Accountability and Leadership are all very important ingredients to my own success and for the success of my patients.
