Today we’d like to introduce you to Anat Mor Betzalel.
Hi Anat, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey there! I’m Anat, so nice to meet you! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in beautiful San Diego, working with people across California and Florida. I’ve always felt wired to support, comfort, and cheer others on. Even as a kid, I found myself stepping in when classmates were struggling, trying to ease conflicts and create peace. That same desire to listen, to support, and to bring people together, has only grown stronger with time. Human behavior has always fascinated me. I was captivated by how two people can experience the same situation so differently. Even though I knew it would take a long academic journey to turn this passion into a profession, financial realities led me at first to pursue economics, a practical, but ultimately unfulfilling path. After working in that field and realizing it drained me, I made the difficult decision to leave a “good job” and follow my heart into social work, despite discouragement from others. It was one of the most pivotal choices of my life.
Since then, in the past 15 years in practice, I feel so grateful to walk alongside people through their challenges and witness their resilience and growth. My own ups and downs have deepened my empathy, not just as a therapist, but as a fellow human on this unpredictable journey. Over time, I’ve learned that at the core, most people simply want to feel loved, though what that looks like is different for each person.
For me, being a therapist feels less like a profession and more like a calling. It’s an honor to hold a safe and supportive space for others, to ask the hard questions with compassion, and to witness healing in its many forms. Every day, I feel lucky to do this work with people from all walks of life. Honestly? I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, though, looking back, each stage brought its own set of hurdles. In the very beginning, one of the biggest challenges was financial. Choosing to leave economics for clinical social work meant stepping away from a clear and stable path to financial independence. It required pressing pause, going back to school, and accepting that it would take several more years before I could earn “enough,” and even then, my salary would never be what it could have been had I stayed in economics. That was a hard but deliberate choice.
Later on, as I continued my training, life added some extra layers of challenge. During my Master’s program, I was juggling exams while caring for a newborn and running on very little sleep. Around that time, I also had to say goodbye to close family members who were incredibly dear to my heart. Grieving while navigating both new motherhood and graduate school was one of the hardest seasons of my life. Those losses changed me, alongside the pain, they gave me a deeper understanding of love, grief, and resilience that I now bring into the therapy room.
At another stage, my family faced significant medical challenges, which stretched me even further while I was trying to grow professionally. And just to keep things interesting, after baby number two was born, I relocated to a new country and had to restart the entire credentialing process from scratch.
All of these experiences, while difficult, taught me invaluable lessons about the human condition. They helped me see more clearly how layered and complex life really is, how joy, grief, struggle, and resilience often walk hand in hand. Living through these challenges firsthand deepened my empathy and gave me a profound respect for the strength people carry even when they feel at their weakest. It reminded me again and again that healing isn’t about avoiding struggle or following a straight line, it’s about discovering the resilience we never knew we had.
When I look back at it all, I sometimes joke that God was really testing my commitment to this profession. But the truth is, in each season, I never doubted my direction. Even in the hardest moments, it was always clear to me that this is the work I was meant to do, and I was ready to do whatever it took to make it happen.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m serving wonderful people in person in my office in San Diego and online through CA and FL. Honestly, I feel honored to be part of so many unique healing journeys. What truly sets my practice apart is how much I care about creating a safe, welcoming space where your story is valued and you feel truly seen, heard, and respected. No judgment, just genuine connection. I see therapy as a collaborative process: the person knows themselves best, and I’m here to provide the tools and support they need to become their best self.
I specialize in working with people navigating anxiety, yes, including social anxiety, panic, past traumas, life’s curveballs and transitions, relationship puzzles, and the occasional parenting chaos. Whether we’re engaging in traditional talk therapy, emotionally focused couples sessions, walk & talk therapy (because sometimes moving around helps the mind move too). I combine evidence-based techniques with warmth and just the right amount of lightheartedness to help you feel at ease.
What I’m most proud of is the authentic connections I build with my clients, relationships rooted in trust, empathy, and hope. Therapy isn’t a solo trip; it’s a journey we take together. My goal is to walk alongside you with kindness and understanding while helping you discover your own strength and resilience (and maybe even laugh at some of life’s ridiculous moments).
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, so I offer a free, no-pressure 15-minute phone consultation to make that first step a little easier. If you’re ready to explore healing and growth with someone who genuinely, I would be honored to be part of your story and support you on the path forward.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The quality I believe is most important to my success is empathy paired with authenticity. Being truly empathetic means not just understanding my clients’ feelings, but genuinely feeling with them, their joys, struggles and everything in between. This creates a space where people feel safe, deeply heard and valued.
Equally important is authenticity, showing up as my real, imperfect self rather than hiding behind a professional façade. When I am genuine, clients sense that I’m fully present with them, which builds trust and allows the healing work to unfold naturally.
Together, empathy and authenticity create a foundation of caring connection that invites vulnerability and growth. They remind me every day that therapy is not just about techniques or treatment plans, but about human-to-human connection, a shared journey grounded in kindness, respect, and hope.
