Today we’d like to introduce you to Viridiana Alatorre.
Hi Viridiana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved capturing memories. When I was younger, I was a dancer and cheerleader, so I was constantly recording my choreography and routines, and taking photos of myself, my family and friends. I remember asking my mom for a digital camera for my middle-school promotion gift because the idea of taking photos on a “real” camera was so exciting to me. That’s really where my love for photography began. As I got older and eventually became a mom, my camera became a way to capture the little moments and milestones in my children’s lives. I started to say yes a lot more when family and friends asked for posed photos, which encouraged me to learn more about editing and my camera. In 2018, I booked my first paid client. From there, I began researching, practicing and improving my work. What started as a hobby slowly grew into something more; over time, this passion turned into a business I truly enjoy. Photography allows me not only to capture beautiful moments, smiles, candid giggles, and milestones, but also to witness my clients’ growth and return year after year. As a working mom of four, who’s also a photographer, I am still learning, but I love what I do and feel very grateful and honored every time I get to document a new memory for my clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a mom is a full-time job in itself, I have four amazing kids, my oldest is 12 and my youngest is 3. And thanks to my husband, I’ve been able to be a stay at home mom for many years to focus on raising them. I just recently stepped back into working outside the home, so balancing motherhood, marriage and my passion for photography has definitely come with it’s challenges. Still, I am incredibly grateful for my supportive husband, kids, family, clients, and the people who believe in my business. Their support means so much to me, it encourages me, and reminds me why I love what I do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer based in South San Diego, where I was born and raised. I specialize in portrait photography. I love photographing families, couples, maternity, engagement, graduates etc. I am most proud of the joy my photos bring to my clients. While posing can be beautiful, what truly sets me apart is my love for capturing candid ones- the giggles, the in-between interaction, and the natural unscripted connections. Those little moments are my absolute favorite to photograph and what inspires my work the most.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is documenting meaningful moments for my clients- so they can see themselves the way their loved ones see them. I want moms to actually enjoy being in the photos, not just behind the camera. I want couples to pause and melt into each others arms while I capture what started it all. I want families to see that their everyday moments are part of their story, a story worth preserving. At the heart of it, I care about creating a photo session experience that feels comfortable, genuine, fun and true to whatever season of life my client’s are in.
