Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Evstafiev.
Hi Alexander, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and creating or restoring things. Before getting into leather repair, I worked in areas like construction, tile installation, handyman services, and various DIY and craftsmanship projects. I naturally enjoyed detailed work and the satisfaction of transforming something old or damaged into something beautiful again.
One day, I came across a YouTube video about the leather repair industry, and it immediately caught my attention. I became very interested in the craft and decided to attend a professional leather repair training in Los Angeles. I really enjoyed the process of working with leather and learning the techniques behind restoring damaged furniture, car interiors, shoes, and other leather items.
After the training, I continued practicing on my own leather pieces at home, including shoes and chairs, and slowly started offering services to friends and people around me. Little by little, word-of-mouth referrals started growing, and the business naturally developed from there.
What I love most about this work is seeing a damaged or worn item restored back to life. Not only does it save clients money, but it also helps reduce waste and gives quality items many more years of use. Seeing clients happy and excited when they see their favorite leather piece restored is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.
Today, I offer mobile leather repair services directly at clients’ homes and businesses. In the near future, I plan to open a physical location and expand further into luxury handbag and leather apparel repair and restoration.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Even though I learned a lot during my initial leather repair training, I quickly realized that it was only the beginning and that there were still many areas where I needed to improve, practice, and gain more experience.
One of the biggest challenges was finding truly skilled craftsmen in the leather repair industry who produce exceptional-quality work and are willing to teach others. It’s a very specialized field, and a lot of the advanced knowledge comes only through years of hands-on experience.
After spending weeks searching for someone who could help me reach the next level, I eventually found an incredibly talented leather repair technician from Montreal, Canada. That experience became a major turning point for me. I learned advanced techniques, color matching, restoration methods, and many of the small details and professional “know-how” that make a huge difference in the final result.
So no, the path wasn’t straightforward, and there were definitely struggles and moments of uncertainty along the way. But looking back, the journey has been amazing, and every challenge helped me grow both professionally and personally.
We’ve been impressed with Leather Repair Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Leather Repair Center is a mobile leather repair and restoration company specializing in furniture, automotive interiors, marine upholstery, RV interiors, handbags, and other leather goods. What makes our business unique is that we provide professional on-site service directly at the client’s home or business, which makes the process much more convenient for customers and allows many repairs to be completed without removing or transporting large items.
We specialize in restoring damaged, worn, faded, cracked, scratched, or torn leather and vinyl surfaces. A big part of our work involves detailed color matching and restoration techniques that help items look natural and refreshed while preserving their original character. We also work on luxury and high-end pieces that clients often have a strong emotional connection to.
What sets us apart is the level of care, craftsmanship, and honesty we bring to every project. We always try to give realistic expectations and focus on long-lasting, high-quality results instead of quick cosmetic fixes. Many clients are surprised to learn how much can actually be restored instead of replaced.
One thing I’m especially proud of is building the business mostly through word of mouth and customer trust. Seeing clients happy after restoring something meaningful to them – whether it’s a favorite sofa, luxury handbag, classic car interior, or family heirloom – is incredibly rewarding.
I also love the sustainability aspect of the business. Restoring leather instead of replacing it helps reduce waste and gives quality items many more years of life.
Right now, Leather Repair Center operates as a mobile service, but we are continuing to grow and expand into luxury handbag and leather apparel restoration as well. My goal is to continue building a brand known for craftsmanship, attention to detail, and honest, professional service.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
One of the best pieces of advice I ever received came from a successful entrepreneur when I was just starting out. At the time, I wasn’t sure if my skills were good enough or if my business would ever really take off. He told me something very simple: just do it.
Looking back, I think fear is one of the biggest things that stops people from starting. We wait until we feel fully ready, fully confident, or fully experienced, but that moment rarely comes. The truth is, you learn the most by actually doing the work, making mistakes, improving, and continuing forward.
So my advice to anyone starting out is: don’t let fear hold you back. Feel the fear and do it anyway. Start small if you need to, keep practicing, stay consistent, and never stop learning. Confidence comes from experience, and experience only comes from taking action.
