Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria López.
Victoria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I was little, I had three dreams in my life, being an actress, a writer, and a fashion designer. And, if you’re wondering, how a little girl was so clear about what she wanted to be? I cannot explain it, but what I can tell you that these three ideas wrote my story.
But there was only one detail, when I’m about to enter the university, I find out that this career does not exist in my city. Then I decide to study a career that resembles what I wanted, so I choose Graphic Design but don’t get sad, it was one of the best decisions of my life. Because graphic design gave me knowledge and tools that other similar careers could not give me and I think that when something is meant for you, the universe puts everything to make it happen. Halfway through the university, they offer me a scholarship to study textile design in another city. And that motivates me even more in my life.
After graduation, I quickly started VICOTINA, a clothing, accessories, and fashion blog brand. This brand represents what I am, always focuses on connecting with your movements, you identify, talk about love, mindset, inspiration, and success.
I believe in being in constant growth and this moves me to continue studying. So, I took the Fashion Industry Essentials course from PARSONS NY which gave me even more tools to continue evolving my brand and take it to produce it on a larger scale. And, here I am, working on making the brand grow and take it to another level.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Follow your dreams is more work than it seems but every obstacle that appears on the road is worth it. Believe in yourself, in your talent, in what you do, is the biggest challenge. You have to understand that if you don’t get up and take action, nobody will do it for you. Because any material problem that arises, always has a solution, but if your mind is negative, immersed in limiting thoughts, nothing will improve. You just have to set your mind into goal-mode and everything will come naturally to you.
what should we know about VICOTINA? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m mayor as a Graphic Designer, Textil Design and Digital Marketing, part-time actress and amateur writer. A whole combination, right? I know, but this helps me create a genuine brand and this is what I love about Vicotina.
For good reason, society often focuses more on the problems rather than the opportunities that exist, because the problems need to be solved. However, we’d probably also benefit from looking for and recognizing the opportunities that women are better positioned to capitalize on. Have you discovered such opportunities?
I think the world is already waking up about equity and that has opened up many opportunities for women. But beyond opportunities, we have the responsibility to prepare ourselves with knowledge and tools that help us grow. That helps us to open doors to better opportunities and also as women, helping each other, women empowering women, we go further.
