Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jason Valdez, DC.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you—this is an honor!
My story starts in Rockport, Texas, and I like to think my path was set the moment my mother named me. Jason means “healer,” and that’s been my North Star ever since. As a kid, I was always running wild outside, climbing trees, building forts, catching frogs, and swimming in ponds. That nurtured a vivid imagination, and I’d spend hours sketching comic book heroes like Tarzan, Conan, and Batman. Those creative moments planted early seeds of curiosity that eventually grew into my fascination with anatomy and science.
My Dad was passionate about weight lifting and martial arts. We always had a gym in our house, and I’d tag along as a little kid, trying to lift weights while he taught me the basics. I was a bundle of energy back then, diving into soccer, track, gymnastics, and martial arts, and honestly, I still am!
Military service runs deep in my family—my grandpa, Dad, brothers, and uncles all served—and it went without saying that I’d enlist also. I chose the Army because they promised me Hawaii, a dream spot for surfing. While in Hawaii, I met my wife, Desiree, right on Waikiki Beach! I also had the honor of serving in Operation Uphold Democracy.
After my time in the Army, I returned to Corpus Christi, unsure of what was next. I was a bit lost, with no clear direction. That changed when three people close to me faced life-altering medical challenges: my dad survived a serious motorcycle crash, my mom battled breast cancer, and a close friend passed away suddenly from undiagnosed diabetes. Witnessing their struggles, and the long road to recovery for my Mom and Dad, lit a fire in me. I wanted to help people bounce back from setbacks like these, to find strength and hope again. That fueled my decision to earn a personal training certification, followed by a massage therapy certification. Both started to light the way toward my passion for helping others heal.
After getting degrees in Philosophy and Psychology, I visited Texas Chiropractic College on a whim. The president gave me a personal tour, and that connection won me over. The school’s focus on a science-based approach was challenging but rewarding. I graduated from TCC with a Doctorate of Chiropractic, as well as a Biology degree.
Structure, my chiropractic clinic, is my haven. It’s where I pour my heart into helping patients, and when I’m not with them, you’ll still find me there, digging into research or geeking out over my latest passion. Right now, it’s Hyrox, a fun and challenging new-ish fitness routine that keeps me on my toes. I’m also a total comic book buff, with an ever-growing collection of memorabilia. You’ll typically find me and my daughter Avery front and center at the movie theater when a new DC movie drops.
Looking back, my journey hasn’t been a straight line. It’s been a series of small steps, each one driven by a curiosity to learn and a heart to help others heal. I’m still growing, still showing up every day to make a difference, one person at a time. For me, it’s not about perfection—it’s about creating a space where people can find strength, stability, acceptance, and a path to feeling their best.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to where I am today has been anything but smooth, but every struggle, big or small, teaches you something if you’re willing to learn. Looking back, two of my biggest challenges stand out, and they shaped me in ways I didn’t expect.
One of the toughest periods came when I was trying to balance school, work, and family. Figuring out how to juggle those responsibilities felt overwhelming at times. I’d be studying late into the night, working fulltime, and still trying to be present for my daughter Avery. There were moments I wondered if I could keep all the plates spinning, but I learned to lean into small wins—like setting a schedule that gave me focused time for each role—and that taught me resilience and the importance of showing up, even when it’s hard.
Another big struggle was learning how to succeed as a college student. I didn’t always know how to navigate that world when I started. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out what worked for me, from study habits to managing stress. I had to dig deep to understand what makes me tick and how to set myself up for success. Over time, I discovered that breaking things into manageable steps and staying curious kept me moving forward, even when I stumbled. That process wasn’t easy, but it built the foundation for how I approach challenges now, both in life and at Structure.
Fall 10 times, stand up 11. It’s not about avoiding the falls—they’re inevitable—it’s about getting back up with a little more grit each time. Those struggles weren’t just hurdles; they were lessons that brought me here, helping others heal in a way that feels true to who I am.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Structure, I blend chiropractic care with a deeper, more holistic approach. I combine traditional techniques like adjustments, trigger point therapy, and stretching with my background in rehab, physiotherapy, nutrition, strength training and massage. I’m all about physiotherapy that fits each person’s needs, whether they’re aiming to hit the pickleball court again or just move without pain. Around here, I guess I’m known for really taking the time to listen and understand what’s going on, so we can work together to get real results.
What makes Structure different started taking shape back in chiropractic school, when I realized quick, three-minute adjustments weren’t my style. For some folks, a fast adjustment does the trick, and that’s great—but I’m wired for a deeper dive. At Structure, we take our time with unrushed, one-on-one care. A session here lasts at least an hour, giving me the space to listen, observe, and figure out what’s going on, so we can craft a game plan together. I don’t juggle multiple patients—you get my full focus. We also skip insurance to keep things straightforward, avoiding the rush that high overhead can bring.
My psychology degree comes in handy more than I expected. The body and mind are so connected; as healers we sometimes forget that. It’s common for someone to share what’s weighing on their heart during a session. I strive to bring kind, positive energy to the clinic every day, knowing I can help someone feel better in both body and soul. That connection is what drives me, and the name Structure reflects that foundation, creating a supportive space where everyone can find stability to thrive.
I’m most proud of the community we’ve built at Structure. Seeing people from all walks of life leave the clinic feeling stronger and more confident keeps me inspired. To reflect our commitment to our patients, we go through an entire studio refresh regularly. This time, we added new Hyrox machines to complement our top-notch Rogue equipment. Our goal is to create a welcoming space for all fitness levels. We’re here to support you without judgment, helping everyone feel at home.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most is the perfect weather, plus being so close to the Pacific. It’s inspiring to be around people who value staying active and healthy.
As for what I like least… nothing! I’m eternally grateful to be here, building a life and practice that fits this amazing place.
