Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Romero.
Hi Adriana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was first introduced to the events industry a little over 10 years ago by my husband, Hugo. He is an owner and operator of a local limousine transportation company. After some time of working together, we quickly noticed that the private events industry is a booming industry. We found ourselves helping wedding and quinceanera clients with transportation logistics on a constant basis. An opportunity to co-own a private events venue in Oceanside, ca arrized and that’s when our entrepreneur mindset kicked in, and we decided to invest. Only a few months into the venue investment, we were informed that the head investor had committed fraud, and the venue was closed. We lost our investment but still had clients pre-contracted for future dates. We gave the clients an option to reimburse their deposits or to switch their venue to a different location. That’s when my company SD Royalty Events, was born. I started reaching out to venues and vendors and quickly started forming professional relationships. Then I became certified in meeting and event planning through Cal State San Marcos University. We became dominant in North County, SD, as the event planning company that helps you find the perfect venue for your event. We added package options with an endless amount of vendors from all categories in the private events world and quickly became a one-stop shop focusing on events like quinceaneras, weddings, graduation parties, etc. At this point we were standing strong with a profiting event planning company and limo service and started joining networking mixers, venue open houses, and expos with a purpose to grow. After attending many expos as vendors, we discovered a need for diversity in the quinceanera and wedding expo industry. We decided to start planning and executing our own quinceanera and bridal expos with a twist of ideas that I composed after doing my own homework and seeing what the others were not incorporating in their shows. I incorporated things like vendor networking mixers for the vendors that attend the expo, that normally takes place after all the attendees have cleared out and doors are closed. Being that Quinceaneras are very big on dancing and choreography, I decided to add a real dance competition to our quinceanera expos, where a team wins a trophy titled as SoCals’ #1 Dancve Team along with surprise prize. I add unique themes and high-end vehicles to the majority of our shows. I’ve also added a giving aspect to all of the expos by collaborating with local non-profits through and giving back by donating a percentage from our ticket and raffle sales to the non-profit. I got to where I am today by not giving up and not allowing a big loss to make me stop pursuing a career in the private events industry. Since 2013, I’ve grown my experience and knowledge in transportation logistics/operations, event planning/coordination, venue/vendor relations, venue open houses and expos, and nonprofit work. I’ve been blessed with the support from multiple local news and media platforms for most of the expos we have executed as a company. Now in 2023, I am planning San Diego’s Biggest Quinceanera Expo coming Sunday, November 5th, 2023! I’m currently working on new ideas and have some surprises that will take place at our upcoming show.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road; there were struggles like losing our investment on the venue we invested in back in 2013 and getting through a pandemic that almost put our event planning company and limo service out of business from 2019-2021.
As you know, we’re big fans of SD Royalty Events. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
SD Royalty Events is a one-stop shop that does custom packages, venue rental, event planning, and coordination for all types of events. We also host amazing quinceanera and wedding expos for a great cause. I’m proud that we are a recognized brand that has built a strong system in event planning and a fast-growing company on the way to hosting San Diego’s Biggest Quinceanera Expo.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that the characteristics that are most important to my success are drive, passion, tunnel vision, faith, and ambition.
