Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana García.
Diana, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Digalo starts during the course of my degree by learning about my area of expertise in hearing and language; At the same time I worked as a volunteer at the Children’s Hospital of the Californias and after completing a Diploma in Speech Therapy, I was encouraged to start working in a small office as a speech therapist advised by my diploma teachers. When I was studying for a diploma and my degree, I fell in love with the importance of language in human beings and with the great need in Tijuana and Baja California, this motivated me to respond to this need by continuing to prepare myself and assist the patients who most needed it. By researching and learning about the care provided in other countries such as Colombia, Spain, Brazil and Chile, it made me want to learn from them so that I could provide better service.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having what until now is Digalo has been an easy task, thanks to the great support I have had from several people who have been an example for me and also to motivation, love and constant passion in keeping my objective clear which is: the importance of language in the human being (my patients). If you take into account one of the above points, it will be easier for you to overcome almost any obstacle, but you should always have patience and always believe in yourself and your project.
Until now, for me, the real obstacles have been accessing some information due to the high costs or courses in other countries or outside my locality, but it is not impossible when prioritizing. There will always be ways to achieve things if you set your mind to it and that is something that I constantly tell the parents of my patients Since they are mostly young, I tell them the following: -no matter how many diagnoses are presented, attitude is everything when it comes to facing a situation and prioritizing plays a big part, not only when there is a disability, this applies to anything in life.
Personally, what has helped me get through each obstacle, is identifying my opportunity areas and working on them (being self-conscious), Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) has helped me, this helps you program your brain to believe whatever you want, in order to achieve it, for example, if I am not good at exercise I tell myself “I am very good exercising” I believe it and I do it. Another tip I give you is to always look for a mentor who knows more about the topic you want to learn because it will help you get to the goal faster, be humble and learn as much as you can, use your emotional intelligence to be assertive with others who help you.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am currently a language therapist, a volunteer at the Children’s Hospital of the Californias, I make content on my social media to inform parents, colleagues and others who like to know about language. I do live sessions to talk about emotional intelligence and I am a member of the Learning and Development Center (CAD). I have my private office, mostly attending Autism Condition patients to improve their communication skills. I am proud to be able to support human development to generate happier and more conscious beings for a better world. I merge all of this when I attend Digalo, which makes it different from other therapies, giving a more humane and empathetic treatment for families. I team up with them, always looking for the best treatment strategies for their children, learning together without judgement, since they come to my practice for orientation.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Along the way, different mentors have supported me to form the human being that I am in a professional and personal matter. This helps me to be the example of those around me. Without a doubt, my mentors started since my childhood with my parents, family, teachers and friends because of that curiosity about wanting to continue learning and looking for answers, since if I had limited that creativity as a child, I would not have that thirst to learn TODAY. And for that reason I invite you to encourage that curiosity in the little ones, to teach them their value and after basic knowledge. I believe that is how adults capable of starting a business and doing things with love and passion are formed.
