Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Hill.
Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was inspired to become a hairstylist at fifteen by my stylist-turned-best friend and mentor, who encouraged me to pursue a career in what I love – which is being creative! As an added bonus, I also get to constantly meet new and interesting people. I started my career as a stylist in 2010, became a certified Redken color specialist in 2015 and in 2017, branched out on my own to create Kimberly Hill Hair.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My path has been filled with wonderful, creative, and intelligent businesswomen who have pushed me to become a better businesswoman and hairstylist myself.
If I could offer advice for young women who are just starting their journey to become stylists, I would say find a tribe of people you love who support you and your business. Also, always strive to be better each and every year than you were the last. The beauty industry is always changing and evolving, and if you don’t educate yourself and constantly learn new things you will get left behind.

I am obsessed with giving clients beautiful grey coverage and natural-looking sun-kissed highlights. My favorite thing about what I do is genuinely listening to what my clients want. I care about the individual things that matter to each person who sits in my chair and I definitely don’t believe in the “hairdresser inch”. I strive to create an environment that lets my clients relax with the comfort of being in trustworthy hands. My obsession with all things creative and crafty gives me a keen eye for creating a hairstyle that feels natural and best compliments each client’s unique features and personality.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I’m a big fan of the “Thriving Stylist” podcast which focuses on how to be a talented stylist but also a bad-ass at the business so that guests have a wonderful experience from booking their appointment to walking out the door with their hair done. I am also a voracious reader, completing near 100 books per year. While this doesn’t necessarily help me with my salon business, it sure does make me an interesting conversationalist… which my clients appreciate!
