Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Sartain.
Whitney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Ten years ago, I lost my mom to breast cancer. Shortly after that, I lost my grandma to the same disease. Yeah, SUCKS, I know… Ya feel me?! I knew I had to do everything in my power to prevent myself from being next. I vowed to turn my LOSS into my LEGACY.
So I set off on a mission: Learn everything I can about disease prevention and nutrition. I traded in my seven-year career in Corporate Marketing to be an Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach. Now I honor my mother by helping families affected by cancer, CONFRONT the “inevitable” and TAKE CONTROL of their health ONCE AND FOR ALL. I teach my signature methodology that allows YOU to Level Up Your LIFE with SIMPLE and ATTAINABLE steps. We work together to create your NEW lifestyle to help you BREAK FREE from old your ways and STOP passing down unhealthy habits.
Has it been a smooth road?
Let me break it down, change is never easy, but it can be easier when you have support and help along the way. Unfortunately, when I was changing my life, I was in my early 20s and most of my friends were prioritizing partying over their health, I didn’t have a lot of help or support on my team.
I went from a daily diet consisting of vending machine food, packaged food, energy drinks, protein shakes, and alcohol to enjoying meal planning, eating (and enjoying) fruits and vegetables every day, and giving up processed food for the most part. Anyone can do this if they have a deep-rooted why and support system.
For me, it was wanting to learn everything possible about human disease risks and how to treat my body to feel it’s best. I didn’t want to be the 3rd generation diagnosed with breast cancer. While I cannot change my genetic risks, there is a lot that I can change and be proactive about and I’ve made it my mission to help other women and families understand how to be the change.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into A Wellness Space story. Tell us more about your work.
I spent my 20’s creating a career in Corporate Marketing. When at my old corporate job I received weekly comments about how I ate. It seemed to blow people’s minds that I meal planned every single week. I planned out mine and my husband’s meals and snacks for every day. I was known as the little 4’10” girl who carried giant growlers of water into work to stay hydrated.
People would often say to me “wow you’re so healthy, I could never do that” or “I don’t know how you have that kind of dedication” but really to me, it was never about being dedicated, it was about treating my body in a way that it felt it’s very best. I let these comments go on for SEVEN years before I finally took it as a sign that I was heading in the wrong direction with my career. So that’s how I ended up here.
I traded in my seven-year career in Corporate Marketing to be an Integrative Nutritionist and Health Coach to help other families who have been affected by cancer learn more about how our diet and lifestyle impact our disease risks. In many ways, I credit cancer for saving my life. Without my mother and grandmother’s cancer, I would have continued down an unhealthy path of drugs and alcohol. It’s unfortunate that it took something so serious to snap me into reality and begin to have love and compassion for my body and healing.
Do you have a lesson or advice you’d like to share with young women just starting out?
Two things: 1. Every single person on this planet deserves to feel the very best they possibly can. Mentally and physically. Your lifestyle contributes to that more than you can even imagine. If your circle of friends doesn’t help you reach your goals and clap for you, you’re in the wrong circle.
2. Don’t be afraid to invest in self-care, find a mentor, go to that conference, find a coach. Your life will never be the same and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
