Conversations with Vanessa Barnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Barnes

Hi Vanessa , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I found my passion for fashion while exploring an introductory elective in college. Delving into the intricacies of the industry’s business dynamics, I chose to pursue a major in retail marketing. Subsequently, I seized opportunities in music videos and local TV, deepening my understanding of visual merchandising and assisting in purchasing. Moreover, launching my own fashion blog played a pivotal role in nurturing my enthusiasm for advancing within the field.

The work experience, would then eventually lead me into having an eyewear company. Which is something I never intended on doing. It’s funny where life leads you. What I am most proud of is our ethics! @shopfashionmixtape, is an indie luxury boutique eyewear made in the USA , with transparency. The eyewear is made slow, sweatshop free.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Reflecting on the past, I’ve encountered numerous challenges, persevering by tackling them head-on.

I believe that in the face of obstacles, one must persistently pursue their goals. As for the brand, I want the world to know that it’s only the beginning, and I eagerly anticipate its continued growth and evolution!

In 2020, the brand encountered obstacles stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, which hampered its distribution capabilities. Retail and fashion landscapes are ever-changing, demanding continuous learning to anticipate future trends and developments.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
What I am most proud of is our ethics!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Credit where it’s due belongs to my family for all their support.

Gianni LaChica, and Briana Crivello for both photos and modeling the eyewear.
