Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for jewelry began in childhood, captivated by the treasures in my father’s jewelry box. Each piece was a testament to his life’s journey, accompanied by stories of their origins and acquisition. These artifacts painted a romantic picture of a time before my existence. My mother, too, was deeply entrenched in the world of jewelry, working in her uncle’s business, Ming’s, which held a significant place in the cultural fabric of Honolulu and New York.

In high school, I eagerly enrolled in every jewelry-making class available, falling in love with fabrication and gradually uncovering the enchanting world of gemstones. My artistic journey continued at the California College of Arts and Crafts, now known as the California College of the Arts, where my focus shifted towards conceptual and sculptural work. Nonetheless, jewelry maintained its profound connection to my heart.

In 2010, after nearly two decades devoted to a career in the healing arts, including Cranio-Sacral Therapy and other somatic modalities, I returned to jewelry-making. I continue to maintain a private somatic practice while channeling much of my creative energy into crafting and selling jewelry. Further honing my skills through courses in stone setting, wax, and sand casting, I remain a perpetual student, always striving to expand my knowledge and push creative boundaries.

As a surfer and ocean enthusiast, my perception of pearls evolved. Initially, I saw them as adornments for the elderly, a youthful misconception. However, I soon discovered their miraculous beauty and their origin as the embodiment of an organism’s ability to transform adversity into splendor. Pearls became for me wild, unique sculptures imbued with magic and luster, akin to talismans. I strive to incorporate them into my work so that others may discover their beauty.

I connect with clients through in-person shows, markets, pop-ups, and an online community via Instagram and my website. Many return to incorporate my work into significant milestones in their lives, and it is a true blessing to share my passion for jewelry with others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Learning and creating jewelry is a journey fraught with challenges, particularly for a perfectionist like myself. The most difficult aspect has been cultivating faith in my creative vision in a world saturated with options. Remaining true to my passions and pursuing what brings me fulfillment is paramount. There have been moments of frustration, such as cracking opals or melting bezels, which were disheartening. Yet, these setbacks have provided invaluable learning experiences, deepening my understanding of techniques, albeit through uncomfortable trials.

As what I term an “only business child,” managing every facet of my small enterprise can be daunting. From sourcing materials to fabrication, polishing, mailing, website design, social media management, and sales, I handle it all. The demands can be exhausting, but the moments of connection with clients who express their appreciation for my work make it all worthwhile. At heart, I am a people pleaser, finding joy in the joy of others. Creating beauty is essential, not just for personal fulfillment, but to share the magic and healing power of art with the world.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am renowned for a “beachy glam” jewelry style with a talismanic essence. My primary focus is on Tahitian and Baroque pearls, though I also work with opals, diamonds, sapphires, and other semi-precious stones. My current reputation lies in creating Demi-Fine jewelry, utilizing gold-filled and sterling silver materials, though I also craft pieces in solid 14K, 18K, and 22K gold.

What distinguishes my work from others who incorporate pearls is the energy and depth of meaning infused into each creation. While jewelry is a passion of mine, my primary work has been as a healer focusing on Cranio-Sacral and Somatic and Intuitive work for the past year 30 years. My pieces are not merely jewelry; they are intentionally and consciously fabricated, imbuing them with a unique essence. Clients have shared that my jewelry feels different to them, providing a sense of grounding during challenging times. While I cannot fully explain this phenomenon, it is feedback I consistently receive without prompting.

Aesthetically, my work embodies an edgier feel, merging raw and sensual qualities with a precious vibe. It is powerful and earthy, yet not delicate or fragile. This blend of elements creates a distinctive experience for those who wear my pieces. My work is created for the unapologetically powerful woman who embodies resilience and depth, and who is unafraid of being seen.

How do you think about luck?

Ah, the question of luck—it’s akin to pondering the existence of Spirit, or a force greater than oneself. If such a force exists, then surely we are subject to its whims, its directions, and its mysterious ways. To me, luck is the tangible proof of Spirit’s presence. Consider those moments when I long for something, and later, as if by chance, I stumble upon it. Is this mere luck, or is it the result of a greater force that weaves through the fabric of our lives, binding us all in an intricate dance of connection?

When I encounter these serendipitous moments, I often wonder if they are coincidences or manifestations of this Cosmic Force I call Spirit. Luck, in this sense, is not random but rather a testament to the interconnectedness of all things. It permeates my work and my life, guiding the course of events in ways both subtle and profound.

The relationships that shape my journey are often born from what seems like luck—meeting the right people at the right time, forming connections that blossom into lifelong friendships. The paths that have led me to where I am today, from finding trusted suppliers to serendipitously being placed beside remarkable individuals at shows, all feel like tributaries feeding into the river of my life. This force, this Spirit, is the unseen hand that guides, connects, and shapes the flow of my experiences. Luck, then, is everywhere, not as a fleeting chance but as the enduring presence of a powerful force that binds us all.
