Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Song.
Hi Eric, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My grandfather opened Samurai Japanese Restaurant in 1979. We were one of the first Japanese restaurant in Southern California. My father took over when my grandfather passed away. We are now on to the third generation and still thriving going on 45 years of business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The restaurant business is like a roller coaster. We have nights where there is a line out the door and then nights when it’s empty. Our biggest obstacle was during the pandemic because high-end restaurants don’t do a lot of take-out business. We adapted and survived, and business is back to normal at full capacity.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We have the same employees still working at Samurai since 1979. Samurai is like a big family, and the ambience makes the customers feel like at home. Our employees and chefs will remember the customer’s order and drinks. We are very fortunate to have such loyal customers for three generations.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I learned valuable lessons from my grandfather and father. They mentored me to become the person I am today. My grandfather use to keep a golden spoon in his pocket and always tried all the dishes coming out of the kitchen. The quality control is crucial as well as maintaining a healthy and fun environment for the employees. We feed the employees every day as a family meal and help each other when we are in need. I have strong determination and dedication to succeed in the restaurant industry. I found my passion and enjoy it!
