Exploring Life & Business with Ali Mirdamadi of Juujbox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Mirdamadi.

Hi Ali, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Back in 2017 I landed my first remote job while living in a condo in Little Italy. Once I set up a home office, I realized how little space I had left and thought there had to be a better way to get items in and out of storage without all the trips and hassle.

The idea resurfaced during the pandemic, when space at home became even tighter. That was when I launched Juujbox in 2022 with a simple promise: storage should feel as easy as using a delivery app.

The very first call came from a student at USD who needed storage over summer break. I helped her, then more students reached out, and soon we became the largest summer storage provider for college students in San Diego, serving nearly 1,000 students each year. A customer suggestion led us to swap cardboard boxes for reusable totes, which turned out to be a better solution not just for students but also for anyone moving across town, as we began offering our totes as reusable moving boxes.

Today Juujbox works with Universities, downtown high-rises, families who need to store personal belongings, businesses storing conference materials, and locals who rent our reusable boxes to move. What began as my own small-space problem has grown into a company making storage and moving simpler, greener, and more convenient for San Diegans every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but the challenges have shaped us. We’re asking people to think about storage differently, not as a place for an entire house full of stuff but as a convenient way to keep personal items like holiday decorations, sports gear, or family keepsakes out of the way until you need them again. Helping people see storage through that lens has taken some education.

We’ve also had to stay disciplined. Even though we provide moving boxes, we are not movers, and staying focused on what we do best has been key. The road has had its hurdles, but each challenge has pushed us to refine our vision and build a stronger company.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Juujbox is all about making storage simple and convenient. Instead of renting a truck and hauling everything to a storage unit, we pick up your items, store them securely, and bring them back whenever you need them. Our service is designed for the way people actually live today — in apartments, condos, and smaller homes where space is tight but convenience is a must.

We specialize in storage for your personal belongings. That might mean summer storage for college students, holiday decorations for families, or conference materials for businesses. We also provide reusable storage totes that replace the hassle of cardboard boxes, making both moving and storage easier and more eco-friendly. It’s like if DoorDash married Mini-Storage and had a kid.

What sets us apart is that we’re building an ecosystem of services around everyday storage needs. We’re proud to be the largest provider of summer storage for college students in San Diego, and we’re equally proud of the partnerships we’re forming with downtown high-rises to offer storage as an amenity.

At the heart of our brand is simplicity, sustainability, and service. We want readers to know that Juujbox is redefining how storage works. Whether it’s a student moving out for the summer, a family creating more space at home, or a business coming to San Diego and needing help to manage event materials, we make it seamless, convenient, and stress-free.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that has mattered most is tenacity. Building something new takes an incredible amount of persistence, and there are plenty of moments when it would be easier to stop. What has carried me forward is a relentlessness to figure things out, to keep going even when the road gets tough, and to look for solutions where others might see dead ends. That determination is what has allowed Juujbox to grow from an idea into a company that is changing how people think about storage.
