Exploring Life & Business with Billy Moore of Any Body Can Youth Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Moore.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working with ABC about 40 years ago. My dad, Archie Moore, who was the founder of ABC was getting older and ABC had stopped operating. In 1998 I was called to restart ABC. I am where I am today because of my dad. He showed me the importance of teaching our youth to step off into life with their best foot forward without cowardice but with courage and dignity.

I have made a lot of mistakes during my life and I know that I have been put here to help young men and women avoid the mistakes that I made. I also want kids to know how valuable they are and take pride in who they are and where they come from.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a very hard struggle. There have been times when I had to pay the bills from my personal account or go without pay. I always knew that it would work out but it has been difficult. The kids that have come back as successful adults have made everything worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Any Body Can Youth Foundation. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Any Body Can Youth Foundation was founded 65 years ago by Archie Moore. Archie Moore was the light Heavy Weight Boxing Champion for 12 years. He fought Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali. Archie was a visionary and a humanitarian. He believed that we could prevent the upcoming drug and gang epidemic if we focused on prevention and working with our youth. We did not do that and we have suffered because of it. Archie started Any Body Can Youth Foundation to teach our youth how to step off into life with your best foot forward without cowardice but with courage and dignity. Billy Moore picked up the mantle and carried on the mission.

ABC is known for being an integral part of the community. ABC provides Boxing lessons, Chess lessons, Food baskets, Mentoring, and tutoring. ABC is unique because it is more than a boxing gym it is a home away from home for some youth and it is a safe place for all of our families.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I believe that networking is important. Mentors have always come along at the right time because we have put ourselves out in the community. So, I say all that to say that if you pray and follow your purpose you will meet like-minded people.
