Today we’d like to introduce you to David Weck
Hi David, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I invented the BOSU ball in 1999. I’d suffered a year of chronic lower back pain, before inventing the BOSU ball — which helped me overcome my back pain.
I knew the BOSU ball would be a worldwide success — worked very hard to get it off the ground. Then licensed the project so I could focus on my education and inventing.
I created a form of training called RopeFlow in 2004. It’s basically training with a rope, but NOT jumping thru it. It’s a far more useful way to gain athleticism and is as gentle on joints as you wish it to be. It’s turned into a global movement with more people doing it every day.
WeckMethod has a portfolio of inventions, trademarks and copyrights that are redefining the way human beings exercise and train to create their strongest, most sustainable selves physically to enhance all areas of life.
We are launching several inventions in 2025, one of which is the ProPulse Power Vest. It has the potential to be “bigger than the BOSU ball” (which means it’s huge).
My mission from the very beginning has been making Every Step Stronger for everyone.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a very rocky road at times for sure!
From patent infringement lawsuits that cost $1 million+, to supply issues, to rising costs, to the challenges of creating profound change in the market place.
Plus my own struggles with mental health. Lots of struggles and challenges navigating the journey…
But it’s a happy ending… and new beginning. I’ve discovered simple, and free, way to walk with perfect balance.
The number of people “stumbling” through life with every step they take just slightly out of balance is in the millions. Add up the millions and millions of steps people take (sedentary individuals take more than a million steps in a year) and chronic problems are the inevitable result.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I invented the BOSU ball in 1999 (the blue half ball you see in gyms all over), and formed BOSU Fitness, LLC at that time. Leveraging the success of the BOSU ball, I formed WeckMethod with my business partner to further invent and market game changing exercise/training tools.
We specialize in the fundamentals of human movement. “Relate to gait” is our foundation — perfectly balanced locomotion being the foundation for all functional movements.
We have an intellectual property portfolio that is growing — with most of our growth attained organically (as the training tools “speak for themselves” making word of mouth our most powerful form of marketing.
I’m most proud of the fact we’ve helped millions and millions of people all over the world. Physical education is fundamental education and the greatest ‘creature comfort’ is pain free tensional balance throughout the body.
We are launching 3 new products in early 2025, one of which is called the ProPulse Power Vest that has more market potential than the BOSU ball.
I also created a form of exercise called RopeFlow. This involves training with a rope, but NOT jumping thru it. This approach enables us to rotate every rep to integrate the entire body with mild/moderate/intense. I call it the Rosetta Stone of training modalities because it develops the root of athleticism more so than anything else.
RopeFlow is becoming a world wide phenomenon — all organic.
We are also getting into footwear in 2025 beginning with patented insoles that actually educate your feet/body so that you walk, run, jump better having used the SoleStride Insoles. This is a fundamentally different approach than Nike & Dr Scholl’s that diminish one’s functional movement capabilities over time.
Readers should know that WeckMethod’s principle objective is making every step stronger for everyone. Our methodology and training tools are ushering a new paradigm for fitness/exercise built upon perfecting the basics, walking being the number one ability that can easily be mastered with our training approach and training tools.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Tenacity. Integrity. A sense of mission and purpose. The relentless pursuit of better is our operating philosophy.
