Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Sauceda.
Hi Heidi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Being the daughter of immigrants, I grew up watching my parents work tirelessly and sacrifice so much to give us a better life. I’m the fourth of nine children. While we didn’t have a lot, we always had what we needed—and for that, I was grateful. From a young age, I knew that when I had a family of my own, I wanted to give them more and provide them with a stronger foundation.
My parents came from Jalisco, Guadalajara, immigrating to the U.S. at a young age with the hope of building a better future. Their strength and perseverance have always been my motivation. I’ve carried a deep desire to make them proud and to show that their sacrifices were not in vain.
I became the first in my family to attend college, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business and Human Resources from Cal Poly Pomona. I’ve recently been accepted into their Master’s program—another milestone in the journey that school helped shape.
None of this would’ve been possible without God and the unwavering support of my husband. Over the past 13 years, he has been my greatest source of strength and encouragement—from my undergrad years to my career in HR, and now through my entrepreneurial journey and master’s program. He has always believed in me, even when I doubted myself.
During my undergraduate studies, I became pregnant with our son, Carmine. Many people doubted I would finish school as a new mom, but I was determined to prove them wrong. I made sacrifices because I wanted my son to grow up seeing what resilience looks like. I loved my business and HR courses—especially the ones focused on people and leadership. I’ve always been outgoing and passionate about serving others, and though I didn’t know it at the time, those classes were preparing me for a future in the coffee industry.
I graduated in May 2020 during the height of the pandemic. While I didn’t get the traditional graduation ceremony I had hoped for, I didn’t let that dim the pride I felt or the goals I was working toward.
That same year, I found comfort in exploring local coffee shops and trying different lattes. Supporting small businesses became my passion, even if some drinks didn’t quite meet my expectations. I often joked with my husband, “I could make this better at home.” That’s when he bought me my first espresso machine, a Nespresso Vertuo. Later, he upgraded me to the Breville Barista machine, continuing to invest in my passion and dreams.
I started making lattes for friends and family, and it quickly became a tradition—every time someone came over, I’d ask, “Want a latte?” After tasting it, they’d often say, “You should really sell this.” Some even messaged me, asking if I could make them drinks and offered to pay.
At first, I wasn’t focused on selling. I wanted to perfect my recipes and syrup’s before turning it into a business. Once I felt confident in the quality of what I was crafting, my husband and I started researching what it would take to start a legitimate business. We applied for a business license and began going through all the steps. Our business, Sip & Grind, originally launched in Rancho Cucamonga, and after purchasing our first home, we’re now based in Fontana. What started as a simple Instagram page where I posted cute coffee shop visits slowly turned into a creative outlet for sharing my own latte recipes. I began crafting homemade syrups, using clean, quality ingredients—and of course, my husband became the official taste tester.
I have a career in Human Resources, which brings its own set of responsibilities and rewards. As a mom of two—my 7-year-old son, Carmine, and my 3-year-old daughter, Capri—life is beautifully full. Motherhood alone is a job that demands everything from you, but it’s also the most rewarding. Everything I do, I do for them. I want my children to grow up knowing that there are no limits to what they can achieve—that they can truly have it all with hard work, love, and determination.
Now that Carmine is older, I’ve started sharing with him just how much he’s shaped me into the woman I am today. My children have made me stronger, more driven, and more focused on building a meaningful life for our family.
They absolutely love being part of our business. They’re proud of what we do and always excited to watch and help as I craft lattes or create new syrups. My husband and I make it a point to include them in everything—every idea, every launch, every step of the journey. We’re building something together, as a family, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.
Over time, what was once just a dream has become a real business built on love, resilience, and family. Sip & Grind is more than just coffee—it’s the story of where I come from, the people who raised me, and the future I’m building one latte at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—there have been plenty of challenges along the way. When I first started experimenting with making my own syrups, I was transitioning from using store-bought versions that had been sitting on shelves for who knows how long and were full of ingredients I couldn’t even pronounce. I knew I wanted to create something better—something clean, flavorful, and made from ingredients I could trust.
One of the biggest struggles was perfecting the syrups. There were a lot of trial and error. Some days the recipes came together easily, and other days it felt like nothing was working. I was determined to create drinks that were not only delicious but also made with clean, high-quality ingredients. That meant sourcing fair-trade espresso beans and using real, simple components in every syrup I made. I wanted my business to stand out for its quality and care.
Another challenge was learning the science behind brewing espresso. It’s not just about pressing a button—there’s an art to it. Getting the grind size just right, dialing in the perfect shot, and making sure the pour is consistent each time can be difficult. There are definitely times when the espresso doesn’t come out right, and I have to toss a shot and start over. But to me, that’s part of the process. I don’t believe in cutting corners—if it’s not perfect, I’ll redo it until it is. Quality is everything to me.
Each obstacle has taught me something valuable, and every setback has pushed me to improve. It’s been a challenging journey, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding.
We’ve been impressed with Sip and Grind, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sip & Grind! Founded from a genuine love and passion for high-quality, handcrafted coffee. What started in our family kitchen to assist in the daily grind of life has grown into a small business rooted in community, culture, and care. Every drink we serve is crafted with intention—using only the best, cleanest ingredients to ensure each Sip is full of rich, bold flavor to assist on other’s daily Grind.
Our mission is simple: to deliver a coffee experience that feels personal, authentic, and made with love—just like we’d make it for our own parents. From house-made syrups to carefully sourced espresso beans, quality is at the heart of everything we do. Sip & Grind is more than just a coffee brand—it’s a reflection of our story, our roots, and our commitment to serving others. We invite you to support our journey, one sip at a time.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future are simple: stay true to myself, my brand, and the values that brought me here. I’m excited to start sharing our handcrafted beverages at local farmers markets and continuing our pop-up events and collaborations with other amazing brands.
One of my biggest goals is to own a coffee trailer so I can take Sip & Grind on the road—bringing our lattes and handmade syrups to different communities and giving everyone a taste of what we’ve created.
We currently have a pop-up event with Junk Lub in Riverside, CA on June 29th. The event has already sold out, and I’m incredibly honored to be one of their featured vendors. I’m looking forward to keeping everyone caffeinated and inspired.
