Inspiring Conversations with Rachel Soto of WILD Wealth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Soto

Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, as education shifted from physical classrooms to virtual meeting spaces – I became one of the millions of parents trying to figure out ways to keep my children engaged and still learning despite our global emergency. As a learning tool, it was during this time that I implemented a token economy system in my home. This system’s goal was to teach financial literacy in a hopefully fun way. My children earned incomes, paid rent, and had the option to “buy” their rooms and take on a mortgage.

The exercise was fun, lead to some great conversations, and also opened my eyes to the gap in finical literacy that I had as an adult. I knew that I could not be the only one, and so I built WILD Wealth as a program designed to teach financial literacy to adults already in the throws of working full-time, trying to manage bills, and thinking about retirement.

After nearly five years, the program continues to improve the financial literacy of those who participate.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, the program has had an extremely smooth journey thus far. I believe in the importance of flexibility and making situation-specific adjustments when needed. This has helped me support the program in it’s growth, and allow participants to organically define the goals they’d like to take on.

As you know, we’re big fans of WILD Wealth. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
WILD Wealth is a guided experience and book series designed to help participants identify the life they’d like to live, and methods they can use for building the wealth they need to get there. In these conversations, we define wealth as: having the means you need to support the life you’d like to live.

During the experience, participants form bonds with a small cohort of 7-8 other individuals, as a moderator leads discussions on topics such as:

– GOALS & VALUES
– DREAM LIVES
– INCOME & EXPENSES
– WEALTH BUILDING

What sets WILD Wealth apart from similar programs is that the program focus is on individual wealth. Lifestyle choices and preferences are not the same for everyone, and what wealth is should also be unique for each individual. Therefore, significant emphasis is placed on not creating a wealth goal or wealth journey that tries to only keep up with the Jones.’ We encourage folks to craft a plan that works for their dreams and priorities.

As the founder and director of this program, I am definitely most proud of the progress WILD Wealth participants and alums have made. Several goals have been met, businesses started, homes purchased, and travel itineraries set and funded as a result of learnings from these groups. The program is available on an annual basis in San Diego, CA. Books are also available an Amazon for those either not in the Southern California area and/or those who would prefer to explore the principles of the program independently.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I believe life happens in seasons, and the activities you do or information you consume in each of those seasons may change. For anyone at the stage in life where they want to expand on their opportunities and grow their generational wealth – I would recommend placing more focus in two area:

1. Books: Make great friends (by networking).
A great way to know how to get from point A to point B, is to talk to people who have already done what you are trying to do. There are two incredible books that give great insight into how to grow and lean into your network, in order to make those next steps.
A) Unprotected by Billy Porter (I do recommend listening to this book on audiobook in order to fully appreciate the performance piece of this story).
B) How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie

2. Podcast: Everyday Millionaires
A) Millionaires Unveiled hosted by Clark and Jace is a discussion with everyday folks, living with net worths above or near $1 Million. These conversations give great insight into the ways in which little habits can reap big rewards. 200+ episodes are currently live on their podcast channel.
