Life & Work with Andrea Mckay of San Juan Capistrano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Mckay.

Hi andrea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in the Golden Hills area of San Diego, attended private Catholic school until High School. I did not attend college but did take several accounting courses over the years. I had an accountant Mentor me in the skills of bookkeeping and went from working as a bookkeeper to eventually an Escrow Officer. After marriage and after my kids were born and in school, I became an independent Notary Public. I have also been a singer/performer since 18 years of age.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most significant challenge in my life was my divorce. It was a time I realized how important my children how that impacted them was. I sought help/guidance form professional counselors and experts to help me through this time. My faith in God and continues to get me through the roughest patches of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As I explained I have been a bookkeeper, Escrow Officer and eventually a Independent contractor Notary Public but have always been a singer. My parents and all my 5 family members have been involved in music. And at 62 years I am still performing in a band. I never thought my singing career would last this long! I am not famous but have consistently been singing since I was 18 years of age. I was gratefully able to bring my young children along to a lot of my performances.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Firstly, being a parent, secondly getting to do something I love such as singing, that brings happiness to me and hopefully the audience! Getting out and exercising. I love being outdoors and still practice a consistent exercise routine.
