Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Swope.
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Verity Threds was born out of a moment of chaos, creativity, and clarity. I started designing pieces I wanted to wear—bold, electric, and completely original. I’ve always believed fashion should feel personal, like a second skin that speaks before you do.
From the start, I was inspired by streetwear, lights, sparkles, and the texture of faux fur—anything that felt otherworldly, dramatic, and alive. Music festivals have always been my muse. There’s something magical about the way people show up at festivals—free, expressive, and completely themselves. I wanted to bottle up that energy and pour it into a brand. Not just clothes, but a movement. A community within a community, where people could celebrate individuality and wear their truth out loud.
I launched Verity Threds in 2024, and within months, it was featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Elle Magazine, Glamour, and hit the runway at New York Fashion Week. But more than any spotlight, what’s driven me is connection—watching someone light up in one of my jackets, knowing they feel seen, powerful, and one-of-a-kind.
Verity Threds is inspired by rebellion, boldness, and the art of being yourself in a world that often tells you not to be. Every piece is a statement—and every collection is a love letter to the fearless, the vibrant, and the ones who turn heads just by showing up.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I think that’s what’s made the journey so meaningful. Starting a brand from scratch is never easy, especially when you’re self-funded and wearing every hat—designer, marketer, shipper, stylist, and sometimes therapist. There were moments of burnout, moments where I questioned everything, and plenty of times I had to get scrappy just to keep the vision alive.
One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the fashion world without a traditional background or big financial backing. Breaking into spaces like New York Fashion Week or major publications wasn’t handed to me—I had to kick doors open, build relationships, and bet on myself over and over again.
There were setbacks, delays, financial hits, and emotional ones too. But every challenge pushed me to be more creative, more intentional, and more aligned with why I started in the first place. Verity Threds wasn’t built in comfort—it was built in chaos, grit, and the kind of passion you can’t fake.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was that outgoing, magnetic girl who could make friends just about anywhere. I’ve always been a natural leader—someone who wasn’t afraid to speak up, stand out, and inspire others to be unapologetically themselves. Even in a small town in Ohio, I dreamt big. I was constantly connecting with people beyond my world through AOL Instant Messenger and MySpace, using early social media as my creative outlet and a way to express who I was and who I wanted to become.
I was a competitive soccer player—gritty, driven, and never afraid of a challenge. I loved the game, not just for the sport but for the discipline and confidence it gave me. That same energy poured into everything else I did.
While most kids were taking study hall, I was in fashion and clothing classes—making prom dresses, sewing curtains, designing bedspreads, and creating my own purses. I was obsessed with making things that helped girls feel confident, creative, and cool in their own skin.
When it came time to choose my next step after high school, I got accepted into FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) in Los Angeles—which felt like the dream. But at the last minute, I pivoted and decided to pursue the full college experience in Arizona. I studied communications and followed my passion for culture and connection by earning my degree in business travel tourism, and event planning. I wanted to see the world, tell stories, and build something that inspired people to live boldly.
All of those pieces—style, connection, confidence, and culture—are now stitched into the DNA of Verity Threds.
