Today we’d like to introduce you to Abraham Lopez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Last year in May, I was offered to become the Social Media Manager for my brother in laws Restaurants. I was excited but nervous at the same time. Being in charge of 5 different accounts and handling everything from Content Creation, Web Design, Marketing, Photography and Videography was a challenge at first. My background is in Computer Information Systems so Web Design was easy for me, but the other ones were new to me. I’m the type of person that if I don’t know how to do something I’ll study it until I learn it. I’ve been reading a lot, studying other people in the business, watching YouTube videos, etc. It’s been almost two years and I can say that I’ve learned so much but I know I can become better. I’m currently in charge of the following accounts: Mariscos El Pulpo, The Reef Bar, Double Black, Funky Garcia’s and Goodies Bar & Grill.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve had some bumps on the road but nothing major. Probably the hardest thing was learning about Marketing and Photography. I knew that it wasn’t going to be easy but I was up for the challenge. Besides that everything else has been smooth. Having good communication with the Managers and Owner has been key during my time as the Social Media Manager.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mariscos El Pulpo story. Tell us more about the business.
The 5 accounts I manage are Bar/Restaurants in San Diego County. What sets me apart from others is that I work hard and go above and beyond. If I’m at one of the restaurants and they need any type of help, I’m the first to help out. It doesn’t matter if it’s not my job responsibility. The thing I’m most proud of is how far our social media accounts have come. I’ve been able to grow the accounts and I’ve had a lot of positive feedback. It makes me feel good helping my brother in law. He has worked very hard to get to where he is now. And if I can help in any way, I’ll be the first one to help out.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was lucky enough to be related to the owner. Sometimes in business, you have to know people to get a specific job. Even though I’m related to the owner, I’m treated as any other employee.
