Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Hobson.
Allie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story began when I started to look into my own health “imbalances.” In 2012, I had found out that I had a condition called Hashimotos, which is an Autoimmune condition that deals with Hypothyroid. I didn’t take action right away because seemingly everything in my body and how I felt was normal. After a few years of just monitoring, I started to experience hormonal imbalances and struggled to regulate my cycle after being on the pill for over 10 years. I went back to the drawing board and knew I had to address the Thyroid condition that I was diagnosed with. Still not having any directly related symptoms in how I physically felt (which is pretty uncommon) I realized how connected these parts of the body were in terms of function. In order to address hormones, I needed to address the Thyroid. In order to address the Thyroid, I needed to address my diet, exercise and lifestyle.
I started working with a Functional Medical Doctor and became even more interested in Nutrition and how the body worked based on what it was that she was recommending, and what I was learning on my own from podcasts and scientific studies. I decided that this was something I needed to know more about in order to make the best decisions for my health and my body.
I was working in Interior Design at the time, through all of this, but quickly found myself signed up and enrolled in Nutrition School to learn more. I had no idea what would come of this education, aside from hopefully finding out more about how to perhaps “fix” this situation that I was in.
After going through school, graduating, changing careers and all along working through my own health issues, here I am today! I can proudly say that while I am not perfect and my gut still needs some work, I have regained control of the way my body works, functions and feels to properly support a life that I am so grateful for.
I now run my own practice helping clients heal themselves into a healthier and happier life using Nutrition and food as medicine. I specialize in women’s hormones, gut health and thyroid dysfunction.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely NOT! Hahah
I think the hardest part for anyone working on their wellness is recognizing that all healing and imbalances take time. It would have been very easy for me to just keep living my life and perhaps moving further into the deep end of not addressing root causes. Many times I cried and just wanted to give up. Many times I would compare myself to others. Trying to constantly figure out different foods, different protocols, and different supplements often feels frustrating. But, knowing that I am not taking the easy way out always feels amazing. Knowing that I am doing good things to benefit my body and other for a long time to come is priceless.
Starting a business, while still figuring out my own health has also been hard. Building a business in general is challenging! I still learn something new every day about the body and about business. I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Barefood Nutrition LLC – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I am trained to provide programs and protocols to assist clients in achieving their health goals. I work to assess individual nutritional deficiencies using the body’s innate intelligence.
Through detailed questionnaires, in depth evaluations and the body’s response mechanisms, I guide and educate individuals how to address any weaknesses through a properly prepared, whole foods diet.
I specifically focus on women’s hormones, gut health and thyroid dysfunction. These are things that I have experienced in my own journey and something I am passionate about helping others improve.
I utilize the healing power of food to create lifestyle changes and healthy habits that last.
To me, the most important thing I do is training individuals to take control of their own health.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Honestly, just starting. Completely switching careers and following my passion is something that I am extremely proud of.
