Today we’d like to introduce you to Conni Jespersen.
Conni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m Conni, I’m a California gal born and raised. I’m a closet organizing fanatic. I love solving style conundrums, answering questions about ways to put outfits together, and am passionate about empowering women to feel confident in their clothes. I’m a self-proclaimed style junkie, and I love anything that revolves around a good meal, a good chat and traveling. I love the affordable style, a great find, shopping vintage, and mixing in classic pieces. My style can be described as California-sophisticated-chic.
After college in Northern California, armed with a degree in education, I moved to San Diego got a job teaching. After 8 years of teaching middle school history (which was a lot less scary than it sounds!), I left my world of education to start my wardrobe styling business and blog. I had always had an interest in style & fashion and at 31, decided it was time to do what I was passionate about. I started a blog where I share my style tips & fashion advice while going back to school to get a fashion merchandising credential. In February of 2015, my husband and I moved to Toronto, where I worked as a prop stylist for a digital media agency. We returned to San Diego in 2017 and I’m back to wardrobe styling & organizing men and women’s closets.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think that any road to learning how to navigate a new job or business is absolutely smooth! As a business owner and entrepreneur, every day has its challenges. There’s no specific or set path, so you’ve got to figure out the ins/outs for yourself! I’ve got a brain wired for creativity, not necessarily business marketing, so that has been unfamiliar territory I’ve had to navigate along the way.
I’ve made plenty of mistakes, not knowing what I needed to prepare for, I’ve reached out to friends who are fellow entrepreneurs, I’ve hired people to help answer questions about finances, advertising, and have had to ask for a lot of help! Entrepreneurship is also an unsteady road, so you have to believe in yourself and be your biggest fan on most days! Unfamiliar as the road is, I know I’m doing what I love and I haven’t been happier!
Art in the Find – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I own a wardrobe styling business in San Diego called Art in the Find. I offer women and men personal styling and shopping services in-home, in-store, and online. I love solving style conundrums, answering questions about ways to put outfits together, and am passionate about empowering women & men to feel confident in their clothes. Style is something that every person should be able to achieve but to do so, we must be armed with the information that will help us navigate the fashion & style world confidently. That’s what I aim to help my clients to be able to do.
My average client is a person who works full time, has a family, a to-do list a mile long, gets overwhelmed with shopping or just doesn’t have the time to devote to self-care. Just like getting a massage or getting our haircut, we all need a version of self-care. How you put yourself together each day is the first step to self-care. But a lot of people get overwhelmed by that. So, by offering closet editing, wardrobe organization, personal shopping, and virtual styling services, I help to set people on a path that will help make them feel and look confident with who they are today.
I am most proud of the feedback that I get from clients after we’ve worked together. Nothing makes me happier than to have someone report back that they received a compliment on what they were wearing or were excited to look into their closet and get dressed each day.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have what I call mini-moments and that is similar to what I am most proud of in relation to my business thus far. It’s when clients send me text messages or when someone refers me to another friend and they are just elated with the outcome of working together. When I get to make someone feel good about themselves, it’s a proud mini moment for me.
