Meet Jasmine Jernberg of East Coast Connection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Jernberg

Hi Jasmine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My husband and I share over 50 years of restaurant experience, both starting in the industry as teenagers. We have held nearly every role in front and back of the house and always dreamed of starting something of our own. In 2014 we moved from our home in Annapolis, Maryland to Coronado to help care for my ailing grandmother. We were young and able and ready for a new adventure. Now after a decade we own a home in City Heights, have two young children and have established ourselves on the West Coast I work as a restaurant manager for a fine dining French bistro and Jeff has his own home improvement business but last summer we decided we were ready for a new challenge. We missed our East Coast comfort foods and lamented that we couldn’t find a decent Maryland crab cake in San Diego. So we decided to do it ourselves! Our concept was born– East Coast Connection

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Juggling jobs and family and a new business has not been easy! The stress over the past year has been overwhelming at times. But as we come up on our first anniversary, we are optimistic. We have made mistakes but we’re still in it and it can only get better from here!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We wanted to recreate an authentic East Coast menu that transplants like us would truly appreciate. We source the coveted Amoroso rolls and cheez whiz for that real Philly cheesesteak. We find delicious Maine lobster for our creamy New England-style lobster rolls And of course we make our crab cakes with lump Blue crab, Old Bay and no filler, a true source of Maryland pride

It feels great that so many amazing folks find us and tell us our dishes taste just like home. It’s equally amazing to blow the hometown folks away with something they’ve never had before. We’re just proud to do something we love with quality ingredients we love

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Jeff and I started our first business together in 2004 after dating about a year. We grew a very successful home improvement business that including cleaning, organizing, landscaping and handyman services. We left it all behind and started from scratch in San Diego, growing a 2nd successful home improvement business from 2018 to 2023. In 2023 we started East Coast Connection, our 3rd entrepreneurial adventure together
