Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Carder.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to San Diego in my freshman year of College at PLNU. I started my first company in my sophomore year, selling baby products on the internet called babysheaven.com.
After about 6 months, sales were growing and I hired my first employees and dropped out of school. I sold that company a couple years later to BabyUniverse, not a big exit but I learned a lot about online marketing and building a consumer experience.
Started my second company at 22, it was called ClientShop, and it helped people find good rates on home loans using the internet. That company grew to over 100 employees, we won San Diego’s #1 fastest growing private company in 2005 (SDBJ) and then sold to InternetBrands. Now at the age of 27, I was ready to retire, or so I thought.
After just a few weeks in Indonesia on a surf trip, I got bored and started my third company, MojoPages, which helped people find the best rated local businesses. Then started my fourth company Mogl 4 years later and now Mogl has turned into Empyr which has raised $50,000,000 in funding and is working towards becoming one of San Diego’s $B businesses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
None stop challenges. There is a new obstacle just about daily at Empyr, but the obstacle is the way. 🙂
