Meet Lily Chavez of Love Lash And Beauty in North Pacific Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Chavez.

Lily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was young looking at my mom applying makeup. I thought it was the artsiest thing a woman can do for herself. My mom’s sister which is my aunt was in the beauty industry, she owned her salon in Mexico. When I was younger we would go and visit family twice a year for summer and winter break. I remember leaving Mexico so inspired, I always knew college wasn’t my thing. Right after high school, I had planned on going to beauty school but after a month of graduating I found out I was pregnant and decided to wait. I enrolled in Paul Mitchel The School after three months of having my baby.

It wasn’t easy, I had very long nights trying to study for my license. At 18 years old being a first time mom and attending school full time was pretty tough but I got through it and received my license. Two months later I got hired at my first salon job in Bird Rock. I started off doing Blowouts, hairstyles, make up and spray tans. Eventually, the owner trained me and a couple of coworkers on how to apply eyelash extensions. At that time which was 2013 lash extensions weren’t that popular and I didn’t have a clientele yet. So I decided to further my education on Men’s cut and color at a different salon. Once I got my hands on doing more hair I realized I didn’t have the same passion as I used to. I then came across a very successful salon that only did eyelash extensions and luckily they hired me.

I was very excited but also nervous about  working at a salon where they only focused on eyelash extensions. The good thing is I learned so much being there for almost four years I had to take this opportunity and grow! So I did, I found the perfect studio in the cutest salon around North Pacific Beach. I would have never thought at 26years young with two beautiful daughters I would be a small business owner! I must say all the hard work has paid off and I can truly say I have a much bigger appreciation on small businesses now that I know how things run. So there you have it LOVE LASH AND BEAUTY is only going to continue and grow!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy?!? Is life even easy? O man lets just say it wasn’t my decision to start a business because of this very reason. I knew having your own business would be tough and take a lot of your time. One of the biggest obstacles was trying to manage my business time with family. I’m not going to lie I still struggle on finding the right time to work on my business but I learned it’s all about balance.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Love Lash And Beauty officially started in June 2019. It’s located in North Pacific Beach inside the cutest salon called The Hair Cooperative. That is what sets me apart from another artist I don’t offer any other services but lashes. So when clients come to me they know they are getting the best lashes with amazing quality work. I am very proud of how much the business has grown, my job is to make sure when a client walks out of my door they are feeling confident and beautiful. At Love Lash And Beauty you will always feel that way!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was friends with everyone, so I thought. I’m a Libra and usually get along with everyone I meet. I was very silly but at the same time very shy, it would take me a while to open up to people. When I was younger I wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I loved kids so much and cared for them. That’s another trait about me, always caring and wanting to help others. I grew up being an only child. My mom had health issues and was able to be blessed with one child. I could say there were pros and cons to that. I always begged my parents to adopt a baby, like if it was that easy. Of course, I didn’t know, all I knew was I wanted a little buddy. I had three cousins that were around the same age as me, each were three years apart. They’re basically like my brothers and sisters, so I wasn’t that lonely after all. I could definitely say I had a great childhood growing up I’m san Diego.
