Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Capers.
Nancy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband, Hedges, and I both had experience as performers in our earlier life for 25 yrs. I’d worked as an actress in film, TV, commercials, as well as theatre. Now in our 60s & 70s, we decided to write a musical about aging called “The Geeze & Me” which ran for 5 weeks last spring to sold-out shows and great enthusiasm. We’re working on another now but have not decided quite what it’s going to be yet. Both Hedges and I (separately) became psychotherapists and worked as business consultants.
He had some unreleased music, which was great, and at first I was going to write a love story around those beautiful songs. Instead, we decided to write a piece about aging — something we knew about personally as well as being in the biggest demographic of seniors in history! We cast mostly older actors who could sing, dance and act. It was a great experienced for all involved. I decided to direct the show while Hedges played the lead role (after some arm-twisting.) Looking forward to it having another life on the road!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Many obstacles! It’s never easy mounting a show. There are always obstacles and pitfalls and we learned a great deal about theatre here in San Diego. Working as a husband & wife team, it became clear where our conflicts were and we had to learn how to navigate them differently. It was sometimes a rough road, but we learned a lot about each other and grew to appreciate one another newly.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Right now we’re a production company. What set us apart is that we only do the projects that interest us, and created by us, although we’re always open to new ideas! I think we’re good talent scouts and we pay and treat others fairly.

I saw the show last year at The Tenth Avenue Arts Center and I loved it.
Are you doing any new ones?
