Meet Nancy De Andrade of La Perla de La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy De Andrade.

Once not long ago, in a land far away from the United States, lived a young woman named Nancy, who read a lot, believed in plants as medicine and traveled the mountains of her home country, Venezuela, to connect with the angels. She went to church regularly with her family and was curious about learning all things mystical and metaphysical. She believed in the power of healing with intention and the common occurrence of miracles.

In addition to college, Nancy studied ways to develop her intuition, learned techniques such as meditation, chakra clearing, pranic healing, hands-on healing, shamanism, personal growth, and so many more courses, looking for that universal truth that she knew existed in each of us. Her thirst for metaphysical and spiritual knowledge was unquenchable. As time went on, she experienced many miracles that validated her beliefs and confirmed that there is something bigger than us that loves us and wants our wellbeing.

One day, while dreaming of exploring the world, Nancy saw an opportunity to become a flight attendant and took it. She began traveling the globe, learning from each culture and appreciating the uniqueness of every place she visited. In one of her trips, she met and fell in love with the man who would soon ask her in marriage and convince her to move to his hometown, San Diego, California. Life could not have been better.

The move to the US was not as easy as she had imagined. Soon she realized that her familiarity with traditional medicine and transcendentalism was too innovative for a society who was only just learning about acupuncture and meditation. Did she make a mistake? Should she go back home where energy healing, heart-centered traditions were the norm? She dismissed the idea when she found out she was pregnant. Reluctantly, and missing her family and spiritual traditions, Nancy adjusted to her new home. She found mentors and classes that kept her spiritual practice alive.

After years of assimilation and facing an unfortunate divorce, Nancy went back to school to obtain her Masters and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Working and going to school full time while being a single mom was not the idea she had in mind when she dreamt of her future, but in her mind, those were the cards she was dealt with. She had to adapt and forget her dreams. Psychology was the closest to the spiritual upbringing she knew growing up. Personal growth, the mind, Jung’s theories, and the gifts of healing naturally gave her a way to stay connected to the intuitive experiences she knew and enjoyed.

For 12 years Nancy worked with mental health patients, loving every minute of it yet realizing the disconnection from spirituality that she and the people she worked with felt every day. Was this the reason for her journey? Was every painful experience and heartache, every longing and frustration meant to bring her to this point? Was she meant to bridge the gap and bring spirituality where it was needed?

She decided to take the leap and renew her knowledge of alternative methods of transformation, immerse herself again in ancient practices which the US called “experimental”, and offer these enlightened views of self-help and inner healing to the population. Seeing the necessity of bringing a holistic approach to psychology, she shifted her focus from clinical psychology to Spiritual Life Coaching, a professional training and guidance that helps people find their unique inner truth and spiritual connection.

As enjoyable as it is to be involved in each client’s individual transformation, Nancy became passionate about helping as many people as possible reconnect with their authentic self. She opened La Perla de La Jolla, a community involved space that offers classes, circles, workshops, mindful yoga, meditations, talks and many other educational experiences to open the mind and the heart to conscious awakening. Nancy is on a mission to bring spiritual awareness to as many people as she can because she knows the impact a spiritual connection has in the well-being of humanity.
